will a 400watt mh/hps grow 6 plants ok?

will it support 6 plants with my aero pro 6 from hydronerds.com? i wil have them surrounded by mylar for best light absorbtion. i'll be using the HTG supply light which has much more lumens than a traditional lighting source, 38k on the metal halide, and 55k on the high pressure sodium, think it will handle 6 plants about 2.5-3.0 feet tall each?

Heya, simple answer..... yes 400w HPS will do. You will need to train your plants to ensure the canopy gets to the same level.... the light will struggle to get through the canopy so read up on LST or SOG.

anything under the canopy is going to be stunted and when flowering will end up as popcorn buds... you need light for dense buds hence training branches into free spaces.

I dont think you will want to grow to 3 feet with that lamp. I would train the plants and keep it at or under 2'. I think your yield will be higher that way.

I assume the light kit you are looking at is the Digital Electronic 400 watt HPS & MH Ballast. I like the idea of having the 2 types of lamps in my grow but I just grow with HPS. Hybrid Ballasts weren't available a few years back.

My point... may not need MH to grow. I dont use a MH. Some people swear by them but I think really you want buds not leaves... get enough leaves & bud sites on the plant then flower (HPS). So really your plants won't be under MH very long IMO.

As for digital.. I can't comment. Again there has been some heated discussions about these and if they do deliver more lumens/watt. I read a post a few days ago about a 2 x 600 ballast which the user thought it really looked like a 1 x 1000 running 2 x 600w lamps.. not enough power.... lower light levels.... not happy camper

I think you are on the right track.... good looking aero kit. Have a look at sog or lst. Sog I think would yield more. 4 plants might yield same or more as well...depends.

some1 fed ya full of bull my sunsystems 400w hps with a ge bulb put out 50k lumens now the hortilux bulb put out 55k lumens and cost's double what mine did for 5k more in lumens

So... while we are on teh subject what would idealy yield more under a 400? 6 plants topped and vegged for 3-4 weeks or 4 plants topped three times and vegged for 5-6 weeks... sorry to steal thread

Kinesis yes 400w will supprot 6 plants n/p i have 18 under my 1 400w hps in my cab 13 - 1gal grow bags and 5 - 2 liter soda bottles

honestly speaking from experince i would instead of the traditional topn FIM instead, plant retains single cola spits alot more growth shoots. if you mess up n/p ya just topped the plant when i LST a plant i like to start the plant early 2-3wks of age. i have a tutorial in my gallery that explains LST in detail with easy pic saved from overgrow by Big_Budda

notice the main stem its just above the dirt level, i get great results when i combine these two methods in my growing. i found myself adjusting the branchs to keep as even a canopy as possible everyday till last few wks before chop. was n/p and worth the little extra work

Opps, yea I originally meant FIMMed not topped sorry I didn't clarify... but still good info I saved the scrogg in case I want to try that. So Maj. pothead how many of these FIMMED babies should go under a 400? I was thinking 4 of them vegged for 5 weeks...

that will work n/p if you wanna see my results look at my old sugar shack grow log and my new memory loss grow log/ you'll see fim and lst fim lst and multi fim on a plant. i pulled 1 and half oz from 1 gal grow bag and FIM'd every branch on the plant
