Hello,
I really dont wanna spend all night cooking this.

I threw together 30-40G of trim w/ a sitck and a half of butter. Then added some water and started to boil.

Question is....do you think this is enough trim/budder? and will cooking it for 30-a hour work? I really dont have the time to spend cooking this for 3 hours..nor can i deal w/ the smell 3 hours of cooking puts off.......

Your comments please..and asap..its on the stove... makin some brownies

I'm not sure I understand "30-a Hour", but I find 30 minutes at a temp just under boiling is all it takes to extract THC into butter, regardless of quantity. I also think just a half stick of butter is more than enough to extract 40 grams of trim. The THC is headed for your dome, but the butter is going straight to your hips.

yeah..i meant 30 minutes to a hour..like...30-60 minutes...

if i used a stick and a half...will the butter be really weak? or will it still get me stoned w/ y brownies?

To each his own, but I never found long cooking times worth the added effort. When I first started making butter, I cooked it for at least an hour because I'd read that makes it stronger. Now I'm down to 20 minutes cooking time and quality seems the same. I would think long exposure to heat degrades the THC anyway. Plus it makes my house stink. Try a quick cook next time and see what you think.

The potency of the butter would depend on how good the trim was, but regardless of potency, if you use a stick and a half of butter, you'd have to consume three times the butter (and three times the brownie mix) to achieve the same effect that you would get if you'd used only a half stick.

Kali, I like the smell and taste too.

I boil butter and herb (trim) in water, 45min then chill to solidify the butter so that the water can be drained off.

I thought only a few minutes is all that is needed? Sam the Skunkman posted:

A conversion of THC acids into the pharmacologically active phenols-chemically a decarboxylation process (separation and release of carbon dioxide)-is accomplished most effectively by heating. A heating for five minutes to 200 to 210°C was found to be optimal for decarboxylation (Brenneisen 1984). Under these conditions, THCA was completely converted into neutral THC, while avoiding the subsequent oxidation to cannabinol (CBN). When marijuana is smoked and temperatures of 600° C are reached, obviously only a few seconds are sufficient for decarboxylation.

I cook at low temp in a crockpot (I'd estimate about 175-200'F) overnight, or just below the boiling point (200-210'F) in a mason jar sitting in a hot water bath, with frequent shaking, for 40 minutes.

that is not all the time necessary to strip all the active ingredients from the source material, that is a description of how long it takes to DECARBOXYLATE material.
