Wide leaf Malawi

I wanted to show you guys my Wide leafed Malawi.

I got 6 Malawi seeds. 2 females, 2 males, and on 2 I'm 90% sure they are females. One of the males looks like the females except for a bit taller, but the other male is different from all the rest. Shorter with wide overlapping leaves.

I thought that was pretty interesting.

It will be interesting to see if grows into a more narrow leaf pattern as it grows and matures.

This pheno is what Ace calls "New Killer".

New Killer (P3): Granddaughter of the old killer mother, competes with its grandmother in terms of resin production and potency. Like its 3rd generation sisters, the new Killer Malawi has a more tamed compact structure, with wider leaf and a shorter flowering time of 11-12 weeks. Its yield and terpene profile are very similar to the old Killer Malawi. This is the line where you can look for the most stable and tamed Malawis regarding structure, size and flowering time, keeping the extreme potency that made famous this strain.

Should make a good daddy.

verry different from my Malawii.....

The more I think about it the more I'm considering culling this guy.
I do have a cutting of him, and I also have another male that is tall with narrow leafs.
What would you guys do?

I would go with the satty one.. I don't like thinking to tame these beauties down.

Edit: or use both and explore the siblings.

Not so much freak of Nature as product of good selective breeding. IMO.

I ran the Malawi a couple of years ago and iirc they were like that, she also grows fat smelly buds, not typical woody/floral/spicy/incence flavours you are expecting, making some think there is a mix up, or some undocumented Indica in there, then you smoke it, and laugh and laugh, it is clearly a straight Sativa, she is just a great selection I believe.

Has anyone been to Malawi and sampled the local strains ? An old friend got caught with a suitcase full years ago, sadly, but in don't see him these days, so cannot interrogate...

I don't think there is any indica in there and I didn't start this thread to point any fingers. I trust Ace.

I got the Malawi because it's 100% sativa. I'm going to make crosses with my 100% indica and learn how the traits are passed on. Having wider leafed sativa could make my learning process more complicated, so I want to try to go for the ones that are very obviously sativa.

I realised you were not pointing any fingers, I was just saying that you could be forgiven for thinking that there was something Indica going on in her structure and odour, I haven't seen any others doing that or smelling so sweet, but she is just a very different plant.

Sorry that was more of a general statement, unrelated to your post.

I really appreciate the input of people that have hands on experience with the Malawi from ace, Thank you.

Hi Anchorite,

As we have commented previously in other Malawi related threads, there are some Malawi expressions that start with wider leaf and thicker stems, usually this wider leaf phenos mature faster with fruitier aromas, they are quite interesting and worth to check. I wouldn't discard based on leaf traits. Basically we are growing/breeding for the flowering traits.

Thank you, dubi.
Yeah is if it was a female I wouldn't even question keeping it, but I don't like keeping more than one flowering male at a time.
Also the males put me over my 6 plant count which makes me paranoid, haha.
