why would a plant not produce any side growth?

Can mean there is not enough side lighting or lighting is too far away for the plant and the plant puts it growth into growing tall to reach the lighting.....

Or depending on what kind of lighting you are using.... red spectrum grows tall plants and blue grows out bushy plants...

WHat lighting are you using and such? need more info about your grow.....

Like GET MO said.... could be genetics...but...i also find how wider the container you plant in how wider the plant gets....small big containers lets the plant grow more in an upward direction...it also can depend on the vegtime you give your plants....turning fast to 12/12 can give more compact plants ime...

When I get a plant like that I just cut the top off, it'll start growing some branches. It
is growing side buds, right? Can u picture that, a stem with nothing but the top. ha ha
Actually I pretty much top all my plants because I like branches. When all your conditions
are correct, like stitch said then it's prob genetics like GETMO said.
Good luck, keep it green. NS

Yup, I agree with that core, isn't that weird how the plants do that depending on there pot size and width........

Yeah I would say it is either genetics or a lighting issue. What type of lighting are you using now and how far away is the lamp placed?

Also are your plants crowded, placing too many plants per square meter will cause the lower branches to not get enough light.
