Why so many herms?

This year I am noticeing an unusually high percentage of herms. The thing is its not genetic because the seeds were not from hermie parents. A lot of these plants however were tied down. Can tying them down stress them into being a herm? Or could it possily be the fact that I had them under 24/0 before I put them out.

The sex of a Cannabis plant is not just dependent on the genes but also on the environment. It is the interplay of genetics and environment that determine sex.

4.9 ~ Sexual Expression

The sexual expression of cannabis is determined by its genetic makeup, and by its metabolic temper, which is regulated by the male enzyme andrase and the female enzyme gynase. Environmental conditions (light, nutrients, soil and water) may suppress the formation of the dominant enzyme, and allow the opposite sex to express itself partially (hermaphroditism) or completely (sex reversal).
...

In practice, low stress conditions favor the selection for females and high stress will favor the formation of males.

Yeah when your working from seeds apparently theres a sort of "magic" week if you will, between the 4th and 5th week....
They say you shouldn't do any sort of training during this period... Thats the time where a seed plant determines it's sex based on it's environment...
There was a write up on OG a long time ago so I know i'm not too full of shit here...
Actually I tested the theory last year and topped a couple plants around the 4 1/2 week mark... The ones I topped went male and the ones I tied didn't...
Genes are also a roll of the dice.... Perhaps the parents didn't show hermie traits cause they had recessive genes. Now if they both had recessive hermie genes that would mean, the parents won't show individually but when you cross them, the offspring will take that trait and continue on... Only a percentage should be like that not all...

the strange thing is that some of the ones that hermed out where from seeds i used last year that did not herm out at all. My honest feeling is that it was not the tying down that caused it.. rather having them on 24/0 for so long before putting them out. I think that is the reason a lot of them hermed out on me. Anyways.. im keeping the herms that look mostly female, i will tolerate some seeds for more bud. :)
