you can be happy with what you got and how you do with this n that .
Like me sylvania super metalarc 1000 bu but run horizontal at 3200k for years then one day i put sunmaster deluxe 6700k for veg in 1 bay out of six and b straight fit for my m47 control gear.
then change lamp back sylvania 3200 ,holy fuck 8 ounces more on just that bay and you could see the inflence on the over lap thats when you get the arse kickin machine out after 20 yrs of sticking im happy with what i got . same throwing away 28 k worth of resinious leaf for twenty years cos you dont ever try a pollinator .

switching back & forth between mh & hps bulbs during growth has seemed to wrk well...

veg for 4-8 weeks under 1ks... when they are on together, can easily see the differences in vegging w/ hps & mh...

hps stretch far more. plants grow more foliage, seem generally bigger. is this really the case though?... the mh side is consistently shorter & stouter, wider & more closely noded...

so... switch them back & forth every 2-3 weeks. when the stretch & stem/shoot elongation has been achieved by hps, place mh on them. they then use many elongated shhots & branches to become heavily noded. same for initial mh sides... that are stacked w/ internodes per cm^2. they get hps to stretch all of those closely formed nodes.

for flowering, mh provides lots of uv & 380-450nm wavelengths, which include uva & uvb & some violet. adding a few purple party lights during late flower never hurt in simulating dusk & aorora borealis... there are other tricks... more density w/ mh in flower than hps alone. flavors & aromas are affected by light source as well... greater par watts are achieved when mixing light spectrums; but can still not come close to full spectrum sunlight of 450 par watts per square meter.

plants require blue & red light through life.
