Why is "dank" a good word?

I don't get it. The word always makes me think of mildew, and dark, smelly caves or something like that. Why do people use that word to describe good bud? If someone said they wanted to smoke some dank, I'd probably say "No thanks I got some dried and cured stuff over here."

People generally like shit stinkin weed.

Not really my cup of tea, but different strokes for diff folks.

I think in this case it's just a slang term and doesn't necessarily represent the true meaning of the word :joint:

I guess I'm boring... I call it bud. Or sometimes pot. But if someone needed a qualifier, I'd just add "oh, it's the highest grade."

I guess I should just be glad people don't call it krippy anymore, lol.

Dank, Rank, Stank, sounds like first stages of fungus and mold.

example: " My weed has developed mildew and now smells rather Dank"

Would you be equally offended if I said, "damn, that's some GOOD SHIT"?

No, that's okay, because it's an obvious euphemism. It's obvious that you aren't talking about feces, in that scenario. But to use the word dank, which is a word that should be reserved for describing a negative quality of bud, as a good word is not fair.

Because if I want to say my weed wasn't dried properly, I can't day it's dank. If I did people would think I was saying my weed was fantastic, when really I would be complaining. So instead I have to say "moist" which sucks because that word makes me gag. I just dry-heaved while typing the word out.

So no, you can call it good shit, but if you call it dank shit I would be like "nope, shit's dried and cured."

No, "GOOD SHIT" carries a time honored, universally understood positive meaning that implies quality.

Good debate point though

I fucking hate the word "dank"..
Around here it seems like people sometimes use the word to describe sticky, really smelly, great-quality weed. And sometimes people use the word dank around here to describe weed that's good, but way too moist.. When I hear
'dank', I think of moist bud; just like the word means..

... If somebody tells me they have some dank, I'll ask them if it's dried correctly or on the moist side, and than ask about how it smells and smokes.

I am glad someone asked this question so a hipster can enlighten us, because I too always thought of dank as sort of moist/musty. The definition is: Disagreeably damp, musty, and typically cold.

But yeah I agree with ya man, I'd rather people not use the word 'dank' to describe good bud. And if it's moist at all, say that it's moist, or not completely dry, or something.. It can get confusing :joint:

your mistaking dank with rank.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rank

1. rank

something horrible, discusting, sick.
Guy1: smell my socks.
Guy2: Arhh mate thats rank.

2. rank

Something/someone poor, gross, ugly, "ew".
The blanket on Roseanne's couch is rank.

1. Dank

October 26, 2009 Urban Word of the Day
Also an expression frequently used by stoners and hippies for something of high quality.
That burritos was dank, man.
or... That burritos was the dankness<------my favorite word

2. dank

sticky, hairy, stinky, and highly potent marijuana.
I took two hits of that dank and was nearly transcendent.

3. dank

really potent weed, produced by proper slow drying of harvested plant material, usually requiring curing (putting plant material in paper bag, folding over top, placing that bag in another bag. Thus reducing air and light contact on said plant materials, so when you go to retrieve some of said plant materials, it is still moist, green and sticky because the resin glands are still intact and 'sweating'.

Re: Why is "dank" a good word?

Originally when I first heard the term "dank", when I was like 16, I thought it was odd. Reminds me of something cold and moist. A good example of the proper context to me is "my basement has a moisture problem, its very dank."

I use the word "dank" to describe good herb on the regular... but this thread does have me analyzing the term a bit and it surely doesn't describe what I consider to be the high quality, finely cured cannabis that I love so much.

Funny how silly things like this stick...

Its pretty much the only word I hear to describe good herb. Actually just herb in general. If its of the highest quality, it then is graduated to "superdank"....

:dunno:

Silly.
