Why do my plants, sometimes, go through a "second Flowering" right at harvest time?

I have had this happen occasionally with many different strains. I love LSD from Barney's Farm and have done numerous LSD grows. The LSD does it often.

Some strains don't do it and others do. Sometimes it not strain specific and one grow does it and the next does not.

So, it's a pretty random thing.

Anyway, these plants are autos in week 13 so they are a little late. I harvested 5 other plants from this grow earlier this week. These were ready earlier but I just didn't have the time so I let them grow a few more days. The trics were ready on all the plants including these.

So I get up today to harvest these last 2 and low and behold.... new white pistils popping out of the top.

In every case past, the new growth forms little pigtails of growth and they get about an inch or 2 long in a couple days. Usually, a couple days later, they brown and that's usually when I harvest. I think I have heard it referred to as "foxtailing" but I'm not sure if this is actually what this is.

With the LSD grows, it always added a nice amount to the yield and the little pigtails get super frosty so I always figured... just let it grow. Sometimes I have to chop because the trics on the rest of the plant are ready so I disregard the new growth and harvest according to the trichomes.

Anyway, I was just wondering if there was a reason for this or if it is just a random thing.

Thanks

Those are foxtails. Plants that do this aren't reflowering on a scale that really impacts yield.

Go by trichomes, you want majority milky with little or no amber or clear trichomes.

I’ve been wanting to hear some opinions on reflowering for some time.

I’ve had this happen a few times on Sativa or Sativa dominant plants. I can almost make it happen by doing a few things: hit ‘em hard with lights, hot nute feeding (kelp, PK Bud Boost) and warm temps.

When I see it and don’t want it, I’ll skip a feeding or two, dial the lights back to 11/13 or 10/14 and try to keep the heat down. If I have some long Sativa’s that just don’t want to finish, I’ll put the lights to 10/14 also.

If it’s just some random foxtail, I ignore it and go by the trikes overall. If it’s most of the bud seems to have a new burst of pistils and I have time, I’ll let it go for a bigger yield.

I’ve always thought that it happens because indoors the light schedule doesn’t usually drop below 12/12, confusing the plant because outdoor it would keep falling
Pure speculation on my part though
