this is my 3rd crop and altho my buds look amazingly appetizing they still lack the smell factor.....upon first inspection my buds would make any pot head drool..but once you smell my buds you realize somethings off....my plants look great but taste harsh and from other commercial type and not so commercial type nuggs ive gotten off the street are way way stinkier than my bud....obviously i dont want to stink up my house with pot smelll....but ive heared of people gettting busted just because the neighbors smelled it...well id love to have at least a lil stinky odor....it seems as tho im doing something wrong ...it cant possibly be the strain..or the breeeder...im convinced that im doing something wrong.....could severly underfeeeding a plant make it not smell as potent??? how can you measure a plants complete health? like 90% of my plants get yellower and yellower as the flowering period moves forward..i havent figured out why but its a catch 22 faer of over fetilising @ that point usually makes me feed them less and less..now im realizing that i must be severly under feeding them ...i also think i have high temps and humidity.....

its driving me nuts actually...i actually had some weird time lapased night mare short film about my MJ plants wilting away in a matter of what seemed like a few minutes

what are general humidity and temp zones for day and night i should try to keep???? ive been told numerous times to get a humidifier..should i do this??will it help my leaves?

Many factors can lead to harsh tasting bud. Heres a few things you should consider for your next grow, IMHO you should:

1) Use of All Organic Ferts, this will really bring out the true flavor of the bud

2) Properly leach plants of ferts by discontinuing your feeding schedule, and by flushing with ph adjusted water up to 2 weeks from harvest

3) Drying Coditions can also affect the harshness of the bud. You want the buds to dry evenly and slowly. Drying the buds quickly can creat a harsh taste in the buds.

4) Many strains require a long cure for the smell/taste to come out of it. I would suggest getting some mason jars and leaving them in there for up to a month, opening them up once a week.

5) High temperatures durring flowering can also be the cause for loss in potency and flavor.

p.s. I would suggest giving your plants a nitrogen gauna tea the day they switch into flowering, this should be enough nitrogen to keep the leaves nice and green throughout flowering.

I have a dehumidifier and i love it, it keeps the humidity right where i like it, however, it is a monster on the electricity bill, i think somwhere int he ball park of 800-1000 watts.

maybe you let them get too dry before you throw them into curing jars?

sometimes herb can smell funny if it dries too fast.

otherwise i'm not sure mang.

ok yea i think im going to try to re-do my whole gro set up..im moving it out of the closet and into a spare bedroom....im gonna work on ventilation and circulation..i noticed in that room the temps are waaaaaaaaaay way coooler(the closet im using now has no a/c duct and relys on an open door and fans to circulate cool air(not good).....im also buying a dehumifyer....my humidity drops really low sometimes....i actually noticed some mold on one of my larger indicas.....so here i am back to drawing board....

ive got two females im ready to finish harvesting and get to work on my new grow set up....ill be take down the other female next week and the other larger sativa dominant plant will go for another week after that..so very soon ill be back in buisiness.....ill be germinating 5 block heads and 6 c99xhaze from JLP

Yeah sounds like ventilation was the culprit. However, if you weere able to make those kind of buds in that kind of an enviroment, just imagine what lays ahead in your new setup :)

Godspeed crunks, and i hope to see you up and running soon

I've had it happen ............

I've had it happen ............

......from dragging out the drying process too long.Leaving too much leaf on the buds when storing can also cause this hay smell. Some associate that smell with inferrior weed, but I've had it happen with several strains that normally wouldn't take on that odor.Take care.....................CC

High people! I always associate the hay smell with bagging the bud before it is dry enough.

I usually dry till the small stems snap, it shouldnt crumble, but still be somewhat sticky. Then into the curing jars, which makes it even more stickier.

Crunks- hehe we try not flame people over here

im designing my new grow set up, im not sure if its going to be a spare bedroom, or bathroom......either way its gonna have its own a/c duct... i cant stand the temps being so high..upper 80's..that has tobe the reason why my plants are so unhappy

If it's dry bud that smells like hay then it was dried too quickly. Try curing it, should help a lot.

If it's still on the plant and smells like that it's got to be bad air circulation/not enough fresh air.

isn't the best way to dry buds. is to hang them in a dark closet with a fan blow away from drying plants, its just there for circulation. i also heard some about put cuts on the stems during dry period.
but the way i would be drying an curing would be like this. remember i'm a newbie..
trim all plants nice an clean. then hang them upside down in a dark closet. an i've heard cutting slices on the stems helps with drying. have a fan blowing towards the corner of closet. the fan is just there for circulation. leave them there for about a week. after the week they should be fin. if not i may try that jar thing.
but the weired thing is i bet all the deals i get from there growers don't waste there time with jar's. i 've heard some some devise to add for drying buds.....

the best way to cure nugs!!

the best way to cure nugs!!

in an extremely dry atmosphere you must take cover quickly, the best technique is leave it out for awhile until just a little wettness is left then throw them in the most or biggest pharmeceauticul pill jar(orange) that you can find open and close upon likeing!!!
