Why aren't my plants happy? Wilt + Def. + Pics

Hey ICmag,

I've been lurking for awhile now... well I've made some posts but nothing really about my own little project. I've sort of run into some problems and was hoping to get some advice from the ICmag thinktank!

This is my second grow. The first one (bagseed, 1 plant) went very well and yielded me a good zip and a half or so of spicy herb.

So on to my problems. I've got 10 plants vegging under my 400w MH -- 4 Apollo11 F2's and 6 AngelDust. They were started in a seedling tray thing (like 2.5in. square pots) and were recently transplanted into 4.5in. individual square pots. I'm using FFOF soil with about 40% perlite and 1 tbl. bone meal and 1 tbl. blood meal. I fed once before the transplant cause they were lookin' a little hungry (yellowing lower leaves, showing calcium deficiencies I think). Feed was 1/2 strength GrowBig and 3/4 strength Cal-Mag+.

Since the transplant I have noticed that most of the AD's are wilting and generally seem to be in poor overall health. I've still been seeing good healthy new growth though not at the rate I would've hoped for. The Apollo's on the other hand have been thriving and are doing much better in my opinion.

Temps range from low 70's to high 80's (doesn't hit the high 80's too often) and RH holds at 20%.

One thing to mention is that when I was transplanting, I noticed that the Apollo's had much better established roots than the AD's. I wonder if the AD's are experiencing some shock from the transplant.

I also think the plants are a little burned and thats why I'm hesitant to feed them anything to deal with the continuing cal / mag deficiencies (if that even is what it is). Can someone help me distinguish between hunger and overfeed?

I water when the pots are dry - every other day to once every three days or so. I ph my water to between 6 and 6.5 (using the liquid dropper thing.. I can't afford a PH pen =\ ). And I will check the PH of the runoff asap. I'll probably water them after I post this.

Here are the pics:

This plant just looks so wilted and sickly and it's killin' me!

how big are those pots?
my pots take about 4 days to dry out aftera good watering and my plants look about the same size as yours

my temps are pretty close to yours as well.
it kinda looks like a magnesium thing to me, next water use some epson salt like a teaspoon per gallon of water and see if they perk up at all.

88 is pretty damned hot I have a variable speed fan hooked into a dc converter so I move a ton of air you may need to get your temps under better control.

Hi stealthballer! Thanks for chiming in.

I wish I knew the pot size... it doesn't say on them. They're like 4.5in. square at the bottom and maybe 5in. square at the top... 7 or 8in. tall. I actually don't know how long it takes them to dry out cause I've only watered once since the transplant. It's been about 3 days and I can still feel moisture about 3in. down in the soil.

I thought the Cal-Mag dose I gave them would help things out but I will add some epsom salts to my next watering.

I've got a Vortex 174cfm centrifugal fan pulling air through the cooltube and it does a pretty good job of keeping temps down. I need to get an oscillating fan though as the one I had been using crapped out on me. The cab only gets real hot when the ambient temps are up there. And since the cab pumps heat into the room I have to leave a window open to keep the room cool. If I don't, the heat builds up in the room. (it's hard to explain, I'm on a second floor so the AC only turns on when the lower floor gets hot and since it doesn't... my room hardly gets any AC)

If there's anything else you guys need to know about my setup to be more helpful, let me know!

They look a lil burned to me that would make sense because the other strain that is looking better takes nutes better? Also I don't think you mentioned how old the plants are? They possibly look over watered to me as well. The pots seem a decent size so they will hold moisture in the bottom for a while.
I would back of on nutes possibly run a small epsom flush once dried out good.
Just my thoughts,Puff

"I'm using FFOF soil with about 40% perlite and 1 tbl. bone meal and 1 tbl. blood meal."

Per pot, per bag of FFOF?

Giving them a good clean flush won't hurt things.

Word, the plants are about 2.5 weeks from seed.

By epsom salts flush, do you mean a real flush (2-3x container capacity) with water and epsom salts? Or simply water them with epsom salts. (the way things are arranged it's hard for me to do a good flush w/ lots of water... I need to figure out a way to let the pots drain without damaging my house, haha.

edit: the bone and blood is PER POT! It kind of seems like a lot in hindsight. I will try to rig up some way to flush asap. Thanks

Bro those plants are on fire I would flush flush flush FFOF has plenty of nutes by its self to feed your plants for 2.5 weeks. Take care, Puff

What I would do is take plant x plant to the bathroom put em in da tub run a few gallons through then set aside in the tub on something I use paint cans?lol anyway so they may drain.I would make sure the last gallon of water is ph'ed. Puff

Thought so. I was aware that FFOF could carry plants through a couple weeks of veg but my plants were tellin' me they needed some N. I think the bone and blood meal were too much though. =\

Thanks,
Dyren

All's well that ends well brother get a good flush on em ta get some a da nutes out and they will bounce back I think the sign you though was a defeciancy was acually burn. You'll get it dialed in! Hope they all become sexy ladies! Later, Puff

Use some earthworm castings for N (.1 not to much N) to add to your FFOF soil. And yes 1 tsp per pot is way to much. 1tsp per gallon is more like what you should use.

Like Puff said put them in the bathtub and flush them out real good. Soil is way to hot.

I use light warrior to germ seeds in 16 oz cups, then when they get rootbound (about the same time they want food) I transplant into bigger containers with a hotter mix.
