Why are we limited to 5 hosted images per post?

This is a real pain in the ass when it comes to trying to update a thread with photos when you have to essentially spam your own thread with multiple replies just to fit all the photos in. I can't see any reason for doing this as there is no bandwidth load being taken on by icmag servers when using a hotlinked image, so what's the idea here exactly?

With the internet text being so bland, it's nice to spice it up with smileys to let people how what you meant with a line.

You know, you could write a cheeky joke, nobodys getting it, but add the  smiley to the end of the line and people will know you meant it as a joke.

Nowadays you gotta choose between "showing emotions in text" or do you want to post pictures.

Basically every picture post you make has to be made without smileys, in practice.

WHAT A BORING LIMITATION!

It was an understandable limitation 10 years ago with 56k internet, but now, it's a bit ridiculous... ;)

All good points^

So any actual answer here or are we just doing the standard icmag head-in-the-sand approach?

To Have More ... Desire Less

because... in the past the amount of images was variable depending upon membership level.... this created problems for vendors that where utilizing members to post grows and strain info....

in the past when members where allowed to post up too 10 images....
often the pic content, and the overall quality was subpar....

who needs 10 half ass pic's.... when U should focus on 5 BEST pics....

if this isn't enuff.... post reservation spots in U'r thread.... reserving the space in sequence to post images when U'r ready thru the edit function..... just post " reserved for images".....

additionally.... the 5 image limit was the universal number chosen to allow....
why....
for better downloads.... less clogg on the system opening multiple images....and faster transfer of images and data to mobile users....

fact is 1/2 the member use the site from a mobile device...
IE phone tablet or such.....

so five was the golden number

if U still need to ask WHY...... ask SKIP the webmaster... I'm certain he can reexplain in further......

Thanks for the response, but none of that really makes any sense, particularly from a technical standpoint. There is no additional server load on your end that would result from posting externally hosted photos. People browsing on phones who are in a photo-intensive thread (like a grow log) expect a bunch of photos, so that's not a good argument either. I still don't understand why you would purposefully implement such a limitation on your own members, but I guess it's not anything we can change, so I'll learn to deal with it.
