Who the heck is this Lucas guy?

i found out about the Lucas "formula" either here or high times i forget which, but it looks like a really neat thing to try out sometime. i was just wondering where this approach comes from. google isnt helping me much, is it something that some forum guy developed or?
who did it first?

the whole "less is more" concept is really starting to take hold.
(probably because i almost burned? my plants or something by bumping my feed up a few days ago, they got the curl but are cooling off now. SMH)
the Lucas Formula seems like such a simple and gentle approach. its like a newbies dream. but also great for experienced cultivators to get into some new territory and try some things.

Lucas was a person who had an account back on overgrow before the Feds shut it down. He had a profile here, but he is no longer around.

I tried it back in the day and it didn't work for me.

He's a grower who came up with the "Lucas formula" which works but is lazy IMO and you are better off tailoring your mix to your plants. My sativas didn't like the head/rez 6/9 I had to do 5/10...

Find what works people put way too much into other people's formulas

I think the point of the formula is that it is a good place to start for those with no experience...newbies will end up with something and then can go from there.

A food schedule from the nmanufacurer works. Anyway there's many versions of Lucas now. The original, the coco 6/9 there certainly work, I'm not saying they don't but I think people should rapidly try and find what's best for them. I mean if it works great but observe and you can make changes that make a massive difference. I see alot of long time growers using these formulas long term and I imagine if they tried to tweak them to their strains they would get even better results than they already do.

Lol rep convo. Thanks Robrites.

So while we are on the topic of lucas/head/res formulas, I'd like to mention for coco users I and many others use the a and b part in equal parts I think that's how it's meant to be used. At first they didn't like it but I played around a little and went back to even parts. Canna overall is pretty easy to use ONCE YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH HYDROPONIC FOOD. Don't start with it because it's tricky food the coco one contains fulvic acid so it's pretty potent stuff a little goes a long way.

Botanicare pbp is one part and pretty easy

General organics is also super easy to use, one part and organic in every state except where it's made...

Most food is pretty simple if you read in depth how it works, once you have a solid foundation to build off of you can make your own formula that suits you

any recommendations for reading?

The Nutrients/Fertilizer and Grow Diary forums are great places to start.
I was the original Mod of the nutes/ferts forum (security threat caused me to delete my account) and theirs a wealth of info there.
Pack a bowl and use the scroll button judiciously to sift through all the bullshit my nutes are better than yours threads/posts.
And Grow Diary's give you and idea of what other folks are doing with varies nutrients brands/formula's.:tiphat:

There's lots of information here at ic.

What I would do is look in the section you grow like. So I do coco (obviously I'm CoCoSativas) so I did my reading in there. Heads thread, the canna food thread so many...

Basically a little reading and experience and you can use any of them. For example in coco I use pH 5.8-6.2 and a ec of 1.0 to 1.8 max (500-900 ppm but in reality I'm maxing around 750, and this is with tap water that has a starting ppm of 200 cal (.4 ec) the longer I use hydro food the better I get using it giving me better results. For the past 6 years I did soil organic now it's coco hydro all the way
