White jelly like slime on roots!!!!

Hey all, this is my first go at hydro. I am currently running a 10 gal. DWC
I really wish i had pics..but unfortunatly my camera broke..Well anyways my plants have been doing really well in my DWC setup..but a couple of days ago my plants started showing red or rusted dots on the leaves..and now today I looked in the rez and noticed a white, clearish, jelly or slime on my roots..its not all over them just in some places..I have done alot of reading about root rot but the roots are very white and healthy and the rez water does not stink. If someone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it..I dont want it to get any worse..anybody else have this or know what it is? Thanks for taking the time to read this..PEACE

Geeezz..C'mon people, Somebody has got to know what this is..or at least whats causing it,or what its leading up to...I really need HELP on this one ICers..Help a fellow grower out..plzz

:yoinks: Maybe you should add hydrogen peroxide. 1 teaspoon 3% h2o2 per gallon of water daily or 2 teaspoons 2-3 times a week.

I don't recall what it is called but I can show you a picture of what I think you have

If this is what your problem is then the only way to fix it is to cut off all the roots that have been affected, wash off your hydro stone with a bleach and water solution and add some PHYSAN 20 to your reservoir to kill the fungus,
This is how I got rid of the problem anyway. I didn't see anything in the reservoir until I added the PHYSAN 20, as soon as I added the stuff to the
water it instantly started to foam and when I dumped my reservoir the hole inside of the 20gal bucket was full of this nasty hairy brown slime

yeah thats not a good problem to have really. haha. you definatly want to change the res. are you using anything like sm-90 or hydroguard? i dont know what physan 20 is, but i do know that h2o2 will kill anything bacteria wise in the water. however it also kills all the organic nutes you may be using.
"1 teaspoon 3% h2o2 per gallon of water daily or 2 teaspoons 2-3 times a week" like sproutco said should kill it.

h2o2 doesn't work on that problem depending on how bad it is, and neither dose SM-90 I use sm-90 all the time and when I did have this problem I let those plants sit in a 70% h2o2 solution over night. Like I stated before the only way I could get rid of this problem was to cut off pretty much all of the roots and use Physan20.
I had never heard of Physan20 before but the women that run the Hydro store recommended it and I must say it dose the trick and it is very concentrated, 1 tsp in 52 gallons will give you 5ppm, use it sparingly. I do recommend it I think every hydro grower should keep a bottle on hand just incase and at $6.50 a bottle it is well worth the money.

Snowdog27, that is sorta what i had, except it wasnt that color, It was pretty much clear..I think it is cleared up now..I hope..lol...I washed all the slime off of the roots..and steralized everthing..and then added some h2o2..It seemed to help..Its been like a week since i posted this thread and havent had any slime yet..But the only problem is that some of the longer roots are dying and falling into the rez..I mean i have hundreds of little roots floating in there..i have been using a fish net to capture most of it..and it seems to be getting beter..I have a shit load of new white healthy roots growing now..and the plants seem to be liking it better...But i guess over time i will be sure that it is gone...Thanks for the info and help guys...PEACE

P.S..I would post some pics of how they are doing but i had an accident with my camera, I dropped it and it wont turn on now. :badday: I do have a warranty on it but like a dumbass I left pics of plants and buds on it and i cant send it out to get fixed like that.... :pointlaug

Glade to hear that it is clearing up but keep an eye on it,
the color started out clear but turned gray and I thought I had solved the problem with just h2o2 but had the same problem your having now, nice white roots would start to grow and then just fall off and for no reason. That's why I trimmed the roots and used the Physan20 after about a week my roots started to grow out and have never been stronger. The thing is I couldn't see the algae in the reservoir until I used the Physan20, once I used it all I could see was this nasty brown algae completely covering my reservoir. I hope you don't have to go through the same thing I did cause it sucks and now instead of harvesting before Christmas I won't harvest until the first or second week of February.

Hey Snowdog27..I really do hope that i get rid of it...Do you think it would be a good idea to trim off the browinsh/Dead roots as a further measure of precaution? That would really suck if that would happen ....if it would i would seriously consider getting some Physan20 since you said that it took it away...PEACE

Put the memory card in an external card reader and view the pics on your computer. If all the pics are there then they weren't stored on your camera's internal memory becuase most (all) camera's don't store pics simultaneously to internal memory and a card, it's either or.

Also, if you can connect your camera to your computer through serial or usb you may be able to view what's stored on the internal memory even if the rest of the camera doesn't function.

infloresence, I have tried plugging in my camera through the usb port, but it does nothing. The camera has to be on to download the pics onto the computer..I dont have an external card reader but the does sound like a good idea though..Ill have to do some searching around to see if i can find on, or even ask someone if they would happen to have one. BTW I always thought that the pics were stored on the cameras internal memory first, and after that is filled it starts saveing onto the extra card..But im not sure how it works..Thanks for the info..I appreciate it..PEACE
