Which design would you go with for ventilation? (choose between these 2 drawings)

I would go with the first one, But I would not use a lot of flex duct. I would come out of the top of the cabinet with a short piece of flex duct then use hard duct the rest of the way to the fan then use another short piece of flex duct to connect the fan to the hard duct.

The reason that I would not use flex duct is that you loose a lot of air due the increased static due to the bends in the flex duct, But I would add a short piece 8" to each end this will help the sound from the fan being transmitted through the duct, wall and cabinet.

Keep the duct straight and use as little of bends as possible.

Ok so just so I understand right, you're saying you'd go with the option of not using a PC fan, but pushing the air through the filter in the attic and directly attaching a strait/flex duct to the cab?

if it were me i'd go with a, the pc fan isn't going to blow more stinky air out than the exhaust fan can suck up, assuming you have a decent size exhaust fan. the closet should contain it all I would think. then again if it were me, i'd scrap the little box and use the whole closet, thereby allowing you the room for a fan AND filter to be hung in your grow

And you're saying the opposite...to use the PC fan option with the filter in the closet?

I'm sure you guys are both experienced and intelligent.. I wonder if this conflict of opinions means both options are equally viable? Let's get some added iinput from both of you and others to chime in

first pic........so I think choice B. Just make sure you seal up between the fan and filter very well so you don't push stinky air out the cracks around the fan.

def A. I've done this and it works just fine.

So you actually used a PC fan to exhaust your cab, then pulled through a real filter to vent your closet? If so, how bad did your closet stink up the rest of your house when you opened the door??

Every other person is picking the opposite scenario...interesting...but damn I wish the answer were more obvious.

Im planning on pulling the heat from my light threw the attic as well. I figured the scrubber would be in my box hooked up to my fan then pushed out the attic. cooling my box and acting as my out take as well.

also, would insulated flex be the best route or it don't really matter?

Ah, that's a good question, I was wondering that too.

I think your other question is meant for your own thread, though.

It looks like my original question has nearly equal support for both setups. Unless someone comes along and insists that I use one or the other, I may just have to toss a coin and experiment.

i'm in the midwest so definitely humid. does the humidity only effect things based on the humidity level where the filter itsself is located? Because inside the closet, the humidity is probably much lower than in the actual attic which is extremely hot.
