What's new

which coco to get?

M

Mr. Nevermind

Im making the switch to coco and needed some help from you guys. I ordered canna coco nutes ( A & B ) and PK 13-14 after reading just about every thread in this forum. Seemed most have success with the A & B and PK 13-14 and seems fairly simple . Question is which coco to get. Im meaning toward the botanicare 5kg bricks. From what i read those dont need to get flushed much ( correct me if i am wrong) . Reason i was leaning towards it was the 5kg brick is $11.95 and is said to expand to 70 liters, where as the loose bag is $24.95 for a 50 liter bag. so to me it just makes more sense to get 2 bricks and have 140 liters worth for the price of 50 liters. Again correct me if i am wrong.

so does that sound like a good plan or is there another coco that you guys have found is good. Thank you in advance

Well my friend your post got me up out of my chair, to test out this 5kg block that has been sitting here for months hehe. It's the botanicare one that you speak of.

After playing with it, Prognosis Negative my friend. Personally I didnt like it. Too much of a hassle to expand the stuff (pretty damn hard brick if you ask me), it's very particaly, somewhat dusty even. Measured the runoff and it was at 0.4 EC. Just too much trouble when the canna coco stuff is ready to go outta the bag. I know its a savings, but considering that we can re-use the Coco 2-3x, I guess it ends up being pennies in the long haul. The one big-big upside I thought the bricks had, was stealthy-ness. If your growing in an apt, it could suck to bring in 4-5 bags of the big canna coco stuff. Wheres the bricks looks like you just went grocery shopping! =)

The botanicare bale is a good call.....but I just got my first bale of Down to Earth coco husks...and man are they the bomb. Can't wait to start growing in these babies. I plan on mixing them with my botanicare coco, as I find the bale coir is too fine of a grade. I am also planning on using the coco husks by themselves to see if there is a difference.

Cheers,
SH

I use the Canna coco, excellent stuff. Also can i suggest that you try and get some B'cuzz coco booster and B'cuzz coco bloom stimulator as well as Rhizotonic.
Good luck with coco and feel free to pass in my thread with any questions, im sure you are gonna love it.
Peace

Wow, thanks for all the responses!! espicially about the bricks not fluffing up to be that much after all. My local store doesnt have canna coco, they do have Bcuzz atami coco. Is that stuff any good? they do have the 50 l bags there. I would be filling up about 20 or so 2 gal containers so what 3-4 bags? Thannks again

If I recall correctly that prefluffed bagged coco is expensive as all fuck. If you got the cash, id assume its just fine.

Good Luck

I get the Sunshine brand (same people who make Promix) and its a good size particle, I amend it with perlite 60% coco 40% perlite. I filled about 80+ 10" square net pots (ebb n' flow) with 4 bags of this "puffed" stuff and cost me about $40. :2cents:

5kg expands to 2.5 cubic foot

2.5 cubic foot equals 70 liters (18 gallons)

I would go with three 5kg bales for safe measure.

Botanicare's coco is some of the finest available. When hydrated the EC should be no higher then 0.3 (tested the boss blocks, loose and brick) Hydrating the bales should not be a problem, just add water :rasta: Consistency of the coco is superb as well.. much better then the loose bag of atami IMO.. to dusty for me, not enough fibre...

canna buffered coco
bcuzz steamed
hygen buffered low .5ec with neem/
in that order for me canna looks to be the better of what ive used and has some friendly bacteria but could add more or add to any coco..

So the 5kg does expand to 70 liters? So then it is a good deal to get the bricks? since bricks are 11.95 for 5kg that expands to 70 liters and the bag is 50 liters for $25. Only issue i have is my local store only sells atami in bags, they dont carry botanicare bricks. However plant it earth sells em online and i can get everything shipped. I think i may just do that.

If shipping isn't too much, definitely order some bales. It all comes to down to whatever is easier for you mang.

im having a hell of a time finding a good place to order from that has all i want. I can order from amazon or plant it earth and get the 5kg bricks, canna coco A & B and PK 13-14 and shipping is $30 for all. so thats not that bad i guess. I think why so much is plant it earth is on west coast and im on east coast. Looking for a place on east ocast that has it all but its hard to come by. Only store close to me that has coco has atami coco and is like 90 minute drive each way. So really i think the $30 is money saved since i wont have to drive 3 hours and settle for other products

If anyone knows a place on east coast that has all those items and ships that would be great! If not it looks like im ordering from amazon. not to my grow though, though at least wherever it is sent at least it will have amazon.com on the box and wont look suspicious

Bcuzz atami coco

I've tried the bricks and don't like the consistency (stringy and chunky) and the pain it is to fluff, leach, what a mess...

Bcuzz to me is some of the best coco and rockwool I've ever used.
The Coco in the purple bags is amazing. No leaching required as it is already leached by raiwater from what I hear and the palms are mainland and not saltwater coconuts. To me there is no coco alike, and Bcuzz is an awesome brand IMVHO

Heya Mosca, how you been? Thanks for the tip. I checked their site and will be ordering from there at some point. I didnt see canna a & B though and the bags of coco there were 34 as opposed to 25 everywhere else i saw em. Like a $10 difference, i dont like to nickel and dime but 10 more a bag is a bit much to me.

I went ahead and ordered from plant it earth, said it will be about a week to receive. I ordered

2 Botanicare coco bricks 5kg
Canna A & B
PK 13-14
50 rapid rooters ( I ran out so i figured to get em while im at it)

Thanks for all your help guys! I think i repped everyone in this fuckin thread!!! My eyes hurt from that damn 60 page coco sticky thread in here as well. Very good read as all the stickies were. Everyone going for the switch shoudl take some time and read!! I hop emy reading translates to easy growing and happy harvests.
