if i wanted to move to northern california in the emerald triangle somewhere or close by, what town or area would be the best. i would prefer to live in a rural area, and yes i do intend to grow my own. does anyone know how long you have to be in california to get a med card, or is just a cali drivers liscense required?

I thought it was technically a year but I'm not 100% sure on this and I definitely know people who've gotten it earlier than this. In regards to the "best" place to live, are you talking about indoor or outdoor? What kind of plant counts are we talking about? Only for yourself or will you be selling too? Is real estate cost an issue? Is climate an issue?

Santa Cruz, IMHO! Also, you can get a card as soon as you get here, just go get a local DL and everything first, thats all it takes to be a resident for mmj purposes.

its going to depend on how much money you have.
Humboldt, Arcata, Mendo, Garberville, Willow creek are all doing pretty good holding up rural property values. $$$$$$$$$

Do you need land or just an acre?
Do you require electricity or can you make by with solar?
Water! Your going to have to insure you have it.
My lame Realtor said I had year round water but asking around for 1 hour and I found out no water 3 months of the year lol, quickly canceled that contract, aslwyas ask neighbors because cannabis requires LOTS of water.

Trinity county proved the cheapest place for rural acres.
There no jobs there so...

Always watch out for southern exposure around 6pm for mountains blocking your lot.

i would be looking for a small place to rent, most likely would be moving out there staying in a van until i could find a job and a place. with less than 10 grand in my pocket. so i would basically be coming out there broke with enough for rents and deposits and such. i guess i would time it so that i could get a job helping to trim or something like that to get me by for awhile until i could find a job. ive already started over here 3 times from broke, and im not looking forward to being here anymore. im tired of circling the block and what not to see if my place got nailed by the gestapo we have here. i would only be growing for personal, and not interested in growing commercially, unless i could fall into a sweet deal with a coop or something, but not looking to do it. i almost live a double life, and i really would love to live somewhere that i could share my lifestyle with friends and not hide it. i would of course do a few outside if in a good place that allowed for it, but most likely i would be mostly indoor.

Good luck on finding a job in rural NorCal. The unemployment rate in several of the northern counties is approaching 20%, and in actuality is probably much higher because lots of people have run their UI out.

Thewre have been lots of these threads, my advice is don't come to California broke and to grow weed. Lots have tried and they all go home in worse shape then they came here. Try Colorado or Montana.

This. I have lived in CA my whole life (been to both Colorado and Montana) and both are very appealing IMO...Suppose the grass is always greener but the attitudes are much 'friendlier' and more 'genuine' in those two states than in many parts of CA (norcal's generally better than socal in this regard but this is to be taken with a grain of salt). Also you get a lot more bang for your buck w/o all the stigma attached to CA - if this is what you are looking for, then disregard hahaha.

i would prefer colorado, but i don't believe i could get a med card there or montana based on what i have read of the laws. im not coming out there to grow weed, just to be able to grow it without going to prison, and to stop having to hide the details of my life from my friends. i would love to be in an environment where i could share my hobby. weed is such a small part of my life as compared to the rest of it, id hate to have the rest of it ruined over the smallest part. people here wont even discuss medical marijuana, they act like you are a piece of shit and doing something illegal for even discussing the topic. its crazy how brainwashed the majority of people here are. i dont get it, Christians should embrace weed and reject pharmaceuticals since God said in his Word that he gave us the seed bearing plants as meat, and he said that pharmaceia (spelled wrong)is forbidden. thats the greek root word for pharmaceutical. he plainly forbids pharmaceuticals and man made drugs in his Word, yet Christians around here are quick to take them if they are in pain or have a disease, but when you suggest to them what God says, YOU are the one that is wrong. im tired of this double standard, either you believe him or you dont, and i want to go somewhere i can grow my medicine stress free. thats my only interest in california. i just figured norcal would be more rural, i guess i could find rural property anywhere in cali, but i dont really know the state. so that's why i'm asking. i know this, if i stay here, im going to have to stop growing, i cant take the stress anymore, but i also cant find good weed anywhere, hence the reason for wanting to move. im sure i could find a job in my field fairley easy, not many people can do what i do. but i guess i should have that nailed down before i move. i may move to Maine, 99 plants or less is just a misdemeanor. i currently live in a state that has supposedly been decriminalized, but a roach or seed will get you arrested for possession and you will have to bond out of jail and pay a big fine and probably end up on probation.

If you've got dreams of suddenly becoming a big time grower right away, good luck. You need to have purchased said land some time ago.

NO DEFINITELY NOT SANTA CRUZ, place sucks for growing and people are assholes. definitely stick to humboldt/trinity/mendo/lake/shasta etc...

I don't get any of that attitude where im at. I shop in Redding but live in the mountains (There not many jobs by the way) Any way home depo, Ace (Ace carries Beastie bloomz and Fiskars as well as the fox farm line) The local CVS has about 80 pallets of fox farm on hand)

Most small shops exist on our buying supplies.

I get ZERO drama from any one but Humboldt Hydroponics who despise prop 215 patrons.

Home depo and even costco and lowes treat me well when I buy stuff at the garden shop, they comment on how well it must be going, really nice, but Humboldt hydro hates medical 215.

Today at Costco they had a demo booth of seal a meal bags and the lady called me over!!! :tiphat:
