50 years ago on the 22nd of November, JFK was assassinated.

Recall lining up on the steps in 4th grade waiting to enter class after lunch. Principal came on the loud speaker and told us about JFK, and told us to be nice to our parents, friends, neighbors and dismissed school. Recall walking in the back door, my mom having the TV on, ironing and crying. From that moment on, everything changed in America, the world. Of course, change occurs every day, every moment. This one will be indelible in my heart and recollection forever.

What was your experience that fateful day?

John Fitzgerald Kennedy left his mark on the world. Light a candle for PEACE on the 22nd.

He left behind these accomplishments, good or bad.

1. John F. Kennedy accomplished what no other American had done — he became the first Catholic president of the United States.
2. To this day, John F. Kennedy's call for Americans to serve their country has remained an inspiring and memorable appeal.
3. Among John F. Kennedy's most notable and long-standing accomplishments was the establishment of the Peace Corps, an organization that is now responsible for sending thousands of American volunteers around the world to help the needy.
4. It was John F. Kennedy's cautious and sensible approach to the standoff during the Cuban missile crisis that ultimately diverted a nuclear war with the Soviet Union and secured the removal of missiles from Cuba.
5. John F. Kennedy was committed to landing a man on the moon, and although it occurred after his death, it was his support of space exploration that helped make it happen.
6. John F. Kennedy's perseverance was instrumental in securing a limited nuclear test ban treaty with the Soviet Union.
7. It was John F. Kennedy's dedication that helped secure the passage of the Area Redevelopment Act, which assisted states that were suffering from high rates of unemployment.
8. Under John F. Kennedy's administration, laws were put in place to end segregation in interstate travel facilities.
9. John F. Kennedy helped promote the arts by holding concerts, plays, and musicals at the White House.
10. John F. Kennedy issued an executive order prohibiting discrimination in the sale or lease of housing that was financed by federally guaranteed loans or owned by the federal government.

I was on campus a freshman in high school , the world changed that day

Yes, that day was our "day of infamy" much like the Greatest Generation experienced Dec. 7th, 1941. The world was shocked and mourned as we did. A great man, JFK.

Other days are deeply etched in my mind, too; when Neil Armstrong landed and walked on the moon, when the Challenger exploded, John Lennon's murder. :frown:

I was in kindergarten. My mother had been a delegate to the 1960 Democratic Convention. I just remember her sitting in her darkened bedroom crying for what seemed like days. She took the assassination badly...............

Hello all,

I was just 4 1/2 and I remember that there were no cartoons on TV (all 3 channels) just "the black parade" which was my recollection of the motorcade.

Yes, it had to be extraordinary, not having cartoons. I mean, in all sincerity, the passing events unfold on TV....we were glued to the black and white watching in disbelief. Had that not happened....one can only wonder what would have transpired in the world.

And at 4.5 yrs. old....that had to be perplexing. Recall my older brother having a "Sputnik" toy object on his birthday cake...I think I was 5 at that time.

Just looked up Chrusciki (Angel Wings)....they look delicious! I cut and pasted the recipe to try for the holidays.

How befitting to share with neighbors, such a memorable treat at a difficult time. Thanks for sharing your experience.
