I have beans purchased in 2006 that sit in a box on a shelf in a closet.
Popped two in october with no problems.

Cool, dry and dark are your friends. Some people store in the fridge. Personally, I've got a mason jar of mixed old bagseeds ranging from 3-20 years that I keep in my cupboard and I've never had any trouble sprouting any of them. (I started 6 the beginning of this month) I keep my purchased genetics in bags in a wooden box in my dresser. Cool, dark and dry and good to go.
