where should i place the little metal thing which is connected to the thermometer? when i place it undearneath the light it shows up to 83F, when i place it in a dark place (beneath one of the pots) it shows 75-79F depending how close the fan is.

howdy

heres my two cents

with a prob you can move gives you a chance to see how much temps change in those spots. like whats the temps at the top of the plants would be a good one or is the root system staying cool(if the root system is keep cooler than air temp the plants can handle a little higher air temp better). ect...

i have mine above the level of the light on a side wall to tell me what the room temp is at that point.

the reason mine is on the side wall now is i have gone thourgh and cked the main areas for temps that i wanted and know if the room temp goes up so much i know what the lower is doing- meaning under the light at soil level.

I don't currently use a thermo/hygro, because I can pretty much guess the temperature (plus/minus a few degrees) with my hand. For my first couple grows I used it but found that I could gauge the temp. myself and not worry about using up batteries.
Anyways, no point in talking about that... :p

I'd place the sensor at the top of your canopy (plant height), but not in direct light. Look around and find the best spot w/ those criteria. You can even make a little shade for the probe if you'd like using some cardboard. I taped my probe (insert pun here) against the wall and then put a little cover over it to shield away the light. Make sure air still flows around it though...you'd get an inaccurate reading if you stick it in a box and let it sit in there :)

G'luck,

Hi, your plants look a little pale no? Or is it the light effect? Maybe your are under feeding. Or else perhaps your soil is too hot. Is your air intake at soil level? Check the temperature of your soil, as long as your soil is within range, your air temp should be fine considering your small area. To find out air temp I would put the thermometer in the air output and just make sure with your hand that the light is not grilling your plants. If so get more ventilation or move your light up. Hope this helps.

Welcome to IC Tyler. Put the temp guage level the top of your plants. Airflow around it (of you tape it to a wall) should not influence the reading. When you transplant (which you should do soon) put some perlite or sand in that soil. This will allow for a less dense and easy draining soil mix. If that is tin foil on the back wall, take it off as it will cause "hot spots" by reflecting your light.

Best of luck, Peace

I want one of those new laser or infrared themometers to spot check canopy and equipment temperatures! I see harborfreight.com has them at a very good price.

I just got a fluke 62 "mini" for 105.00 and I'm telling you if you are serious about the environment, you should make the investment. You will find very much of a discrepency between wall mount thermos. and the actual temp of a plant at its canopy, you will be pleasantly surprised also as the discrepancy is in your favor.
