I have been gone for a while.
where is di wee dalat?
what became of his awesome strain?
did he ever sell it commercially?
or is it only in the hands of a select few?

I am a lover of pure or near pure sativas.

if the dalat is out there, I would love to grow and enjoy this strain.

I know "marksurfs" from overgrow got the pure seeds and grew them out with amazing results, huge yields but with a ridiculous flowering time of 16 weeks or something. I've heard many smoke reports of it and it supposed to be top shelf in every respect, except the duration of the high, it seems you need to smoke up every 30 min to keep it going strong.

I remember the dalat from my ole OverGrow days.
Did he ever migrate to ICMAG?
It looked outstanding,'
and the smoke reports sounded sweet!

Afghanicus

I also remember the old dalat from OG with those pencil thin leaflets. A stereotype sativa. Would be good to know someone preserved some seeds without hybridising them.

i actually read somewhere, it isn't that potent at all. i think it was a t hread on here. it just has no ceiling and is really unique. it does sound interesting to grow, doesn't it though?

Afghanicus

what may be not potent for some might be plenty potent for others. It would be a shame to end up with all the same type of weed with no diversity of effects. People should be putting more effort into preserving landrace genetics. It seems the temptation is always there to cross it with something else.

It apears that Mr Dalat is M.I.A.
is there any other growers here that have succesfully revived old seeds from decades ago? Has someone keep a mother alive for over 10 years.
I really believe in preservation. 30 years from now smokers will be longing for the strains that we are growing now.

wow!
Ephedrone25!
It is really great to know that someone is still growing that strain. I recall the long thread that Di Wee Dalat had going! It was eye candy for a sativa lover. I wish you well and happy breeding.

Nice work EpheDrone, preserve those genes and don't forget to post some pics. I wouldn't even get rid of hermies if I had those seeds, they are precious. My main concern would be producing more seeds and getting them to people who would grow them out and preserve them.

happy growing

Greetings EpheDrone25

First, allow me to congratulate you. You must be the possessor of great passion and commitment to seek and attain those increasingly rare genetics.

I see that you've been a member of this forum since 2004... So I am certain that you are well aware of the statements I am about to make. I simply and humbly request your indulgence.

I started 2 babies here under the sun Im hoping to make f2s now all I need is a true male & true female....This one must be preserved consider it done..!...EpheDrone25

'Some preservation...is better than none.'
A colleague of mine tendered the above statement....and I reluctantly concur. However, selecting from a population of two is not preservation.

Please accept my post, in the spirit in which it is meant. I am certainly not belittling your efforts, in fact, I find them noteworthy. However, if the concept of preservation is to be taken seriously...all the available seed (and in all probability there isn't complete genetic representation in the number of seeds available...but, work with what you have) need be germinated, cultivated and openly pollinated.

Also, plants in a true preservation project need be cultivated in the same environ as the heirloom source (or at least...under the same/similar conditions).

I wouldn't even get rid of hermies if I had those seeds, they are precious....Afghanicus

A preservation project needs focus on retaining all genetic diversity. (Incidentally, in Vietnamese and Thai strains, the truly outstanding specimens in regards to psychoactivity/cannabinoid profiles are hermaphrodites. In these cultivars...intersex is 'normal')

Just a few points for consideration.

Sincerely,
Charles.

p.s. I am fully aware that not all cultivators have all resources at their discretion; I trust that you will do the best that you can...and I commend you for it.

Hey Charles :joint:

Thanks for taking interest! Forgive me if i cut corners in my speech like by saying " I started 2 and will make f2s"., But I was sure someone would ask so I just said right off the bat. Most of the time when i put 2 plants i get both sexes so yeah im taking that for granted but hell Mary Jane & I got something goin on.... :canabis:

Forgive my deep indica brain zonk!

My conditions here are some what similar (maybe)
I live in an elevated place
(900meters) its very hot and quite humid with a long flowering season till late December , I will post pics continually. I must note that I will take this as professionally as possible cause I do posses a great passion for this.

Thanks for your informative & serious comments Charles.

Peace

Greetings EpheDrone25

I am much relieved that the previous post was well received. It was not my intent to condescend... but rather to display interest and in an indirect way announce solidarity in respect to your efforts. Your openness to 'critique', points to your maturity and displays the type of quiet confidence that should be the rod of every cultivator. Thank you for your clarification. Thank you for undertaking your project.

The conditions you describe should suffice quite well. I look forward to the updates.

Sincerely,
Charles.

p.s. I note from your post in the African Stains thread that goats pay you courtesy on occasion; The 'Dalat' tends to display spindly growth in the early vegetative stage...irresistible to goats...employ caution.

p.p.s. The 'Dalat' has a very vigorous root system; if possible, the plants perform closer to potential if the restriction of a container is eliminated.

C.X.
