where did i go wrong??

Hey guys..im a newbie to this forum..ive been setting up my 2 room setup for a few months and at the moment have a few rough bagseed babies up in coco..I recently orderd some HOG beans from gypsy in the uk..I placed them in some water for 12 hours and a couplke of them started to crack and poke out there toungs..i then placed them in some presoaked rockwool cubes and put them in the propagation box...i didnt have a warm pad, so i placed a 100 watt light globe under the whpole tray and measured the temp inside the box , and adjusted the light untill the temp stayed at 25 deg(celsius)..spot on i thought...but after 5 days, nothing had happend, so i sprayed them again with some seeds and clone....another 5 days and still nothing..so now ..its been 17 days i pulled some seeds out and alass..nothing...they were still closed...and the ones that were cracked by the glass of water hadn't sprouted any further, but had like white ooze covering the toung bit....i could have cried...expensive beans, so full of promise, watsed...0 out of 10.....arghhh....what did i do wrong??i followed the instructions as closely as i could....dudes...any tips would be apreciated beyond words...
cheers
Andy

put seeds in rw cubes
do not germinate them beforehand
every sprout that stops growing after being placed into the rw cubes, was killed by you.

I really do not understand why people still use different medias for sprouting and for growing.

Some of the seeds may be viable still. If they were still closed then there was probably no harm done yet. The one with the white ooze should be discarded or isolated if you try to germinate again.
Just get a wet paper towel, ziplock bag and seeds. Put the seeds in the paper towel, put that into the ziplock bag and check occasionally. Once the seeds pop and their tails are showing, pop them into the rockwool cubes.

Hopefully, some will sprout considering how expensive those seeds are. Good luck.

Hey cannabis, I would go along with what Indophiliac had to say. Other than that, I am sorry to hear that those beans are not sprouting like they should. Good Luck

I placed them in some water for 12 hours and a couple of them started to crack and poke out there tounges.

Interesting, I've sprouted over 30 seeds in the last couple of years (all Nirvana Seeds, Northern Lights, Misty, NL x Shiva, and Cal Orange Bud). I always place them in a cup of cold tap water and leave them in the fridge overnight. Never have I seen a single one crack or start sprouting whilst still in the water. After a maximum of 24 hours in the water I plant them straight into my compost mix in 5" pots and I've had germination rates of 90%+.

Maybe the seeds you bought are significantly fresher than the ones I've been using?

Personally I like to get them planted before they crack, as that way I know I'm not going to damage the seedling whilst handling it at it's most delicate stage.

i use rockwool and aeroponic propagator for 110 w nebula light resting on dome all vents open 100% success
i also have had seeds germ while in water when soaking overnight
i think with rockwool there needs to be a good balance of air and water in them
and the aeroponic prop does a grand job at achieving that

good luck m8

sounds like some of your seeds should have germinated. Not knocking gypsy, but I did get a pack of seeds from him that were 0% germination. Keep trying and good luck.

Mace, I'm willing to bet there are a LOT of things you don't understand. For examples, how to be tactful and supportive to your fellow growers. And you don't understand that other people like to try things their own way. I do hope you understand there are right ways -- other than YOUR WAY. If you can't be courteous and helpful, please slither away without saying a word.
Grow big, Yes I Cannabis
Thank you

I would get a new batch of seeds. Soak them in water for 12 hours then plant them in wet soil or whatever. You can cover the pots with clear plastic wrap to keep moisture in and observe if any sprouted. Remove the wrap as soon as they sprout and give bright light. You had the right idea by keeping the temperature warm. It is this simple if your seeds are good.

Paper and Ziplock method.....

first i get like two napkins from my kitchen and then i wet them and squeeze till its moist buy not dripping. i then put my beans in the middle of the wet napkins and then fold the moist paper over the beans (i fold it over once and then fold again). then i put the folded napkin w/ the beans in the sip lock and i seal the bag, then i place it ontop of my warm computer monitor. and in about 1-2 days your babies would have popped! after the white tails are out, i place the bean carefully into a jiffy pellet(soil) w/ the tail pointing down into the hole. i have also placed fresh popped seedlings into my bubble cloner(using a small piece of tubing, the one for the aquarium airpumps). then i just place in my dwc w/ netpots and hydroton or w my jiffy pellet into my soil pot!

hope this helps. feel free to ask if its confusing in any way.
peace.

I ran across this method a few weeks ago online and it has helped me. Use the previous method (ziplock/napkins) but instead of laying it on the monitor, use a thumb tack and attach it to the wall or any warm place. Make sure it is light proof for germing.

When I first read that method, I was skeptical and couldn't figure out why to tack them to the wall. It makes the seeds grow their tails straight down as if they are searching for soil. It makes it real easy to plant them when they have a straight taproot about an inch or so. With the old (flat) method, the roots will curl and make it difficult to place the root pointing down in the soil bed.

So, have we confused the hell out of you yet? It's gotta be difficult getting directions from so many people. There is lots of good info out there. To steal a line from The Band... "take what you need and leave the rest."

Okay this is what you do.... take a paper towel wet it moderately take your seeds spread them out in the paper towel like a 1/2 inch. fold the towel over once and then place in a zip lock bag. seal but not all the way leave a inch open. so a little air gets in and check maybe twice a day. i put mine in between two plates and set it on my cable box to keep the plate warm and dark. i just shut the tv off and leave the cable box on. those seeds tend to be a little fast at times that is why i checked mine twice a day. i am also a newbie to all this but i lucked out. and now i have way to many plants. alot of clones that went really good for me too. no worries man you'll get it i just followed everybodys input to a degree. but i listened to everybody now i have this great crop. and yeah man that guy was kind of a jerk about it. :bat: it's will all come together for you though we all are here to help

Later :headbange :smoweed: :jawdrop:
