where all is there freedom of speech in this world?

Hi all, just an ignorant Canadian here, my buddies and I were discussing freedom of speech and which countries have such a thing.
Now if I am correct all commonwealth countries do, the USA does, russia/china/N.Korea and all communist contries don't....
are there many others where freedom of speech is allowed?
And what do these countries do to gaurantee their people have such rights?
and what penalties are there for restricting someones right to freedom of speech?

saying "some" things in socalled free countries might still get you on a "special" list :D

always makes me wonder this thing called freedom of speech and how itis so easily trampled on, sometimes by people acting on"behalf" of someone else. yes there are people willing to do such things in the name of others.
I see it happeneing lots in this world and no one seems to care, only advice to quit saying what your saying or you can't say that, or or or doesnt the bill of rights or etc matter?
Just look at the railway job being done on Julian Assante for instance

Communist countries? Russia hasn't been communist in a long while and N.Korea is communist in name only, it's totalitarian dictatorship. China is a semi-totalitarian capitalist state and becoming more free as it gets richer, communist in name only. Our media pretends they're still proper red commies to make it easier to vilify them as we'll be at war soon enough.

The cold war was won by the west, that shit ended in 1989. Capitalism is where it's at the world over, you can say/do what you want as long as you own the media/government.

TOUCHE dude
that is exactly what I mean by this.
so now the next question.... why do people allow it to happen? what happened to sticking up for rights/freedoms or is that something thats was lost by the "me me me" generation?

Freedom of speech, like all other freedoms, can't exist fairly for everyone without regulations. In capitalist countries freedom of speech is often dependent upon having the money and means to speak, leaving those without those means without the freedom.

Some countries have tackled this problem by limiting the influence of money in politics and media, and these countries tend to be labeled "non-free", "communist", etc. But these labels are generally not correct, and the opposite is often true.

Youre free to do what they say you can do...

You're free to do what you can pay to do...

and that's wrong.

Where has all the freedom gone?

In France it is illegal to tell positive things about cannabis, many limits to our so-called freedom of speech here...
