When do u guys start counting the days when u switch over to 12/12? Do u start counting the days as soon as u flip them to 12/12 or do start counting as soon as u start to see the flower?

From the beginning. Just easier to nail down and makes everything consistent strain to strain.

Depends on why you are counting, if it is for your own purposes then use the flip but don't expect them to be done anywhere close to the breeder's estimate if that is the case.

Thanks for the replies fella's.. This is for my own purpose, reason why I am asking is because i am growing a few og's and from what I was told u have to let them go for atleast 70 days.

Anything other than the solstice is arbitrary. While you may purchase of one variety over the other based on advertised flowering periods, base harvest day on the plants progress and not the ads promise.

What freezer boy said. I've found that it is usually 1-2 weeks longer than breeders state. As a general rule for me anyway. Which has made me wonder if the breeders go by when the first Pre flowers show up....usually for me (I think) is 1-2 weeks from when I flip them.

A room with perfect conditions which creates vigorous and healthy growth will finish at the shorter end of a breeders given harvest window. If your room is not perfect conditions it will take one to two weeks longer than the breeders low end of the harvest window to achieve similar results. I believe this is why they usually state something like Bubba Kush 8-10 weeks flowering period.

A plant does have to grow for a certain period of time to reach a mature enough stage where it can produce flowers. If you are placing a clone showing preflowers into 12/12, it will mature sooner than a seedling of the same variety placed into 12/12.

have long wondered when i see short flower times <8 weeks whether maybe that breeder does figure from first pistils? it can be curious cause some take longer from the flip to show pistils? would be cool to see breeders agree on the flip as the standard to count down from some react slowly but finish quickly some flip right away but mature over a longer period varying by strain but also age/maturity of individuals NTM conditions and resilience of particular strains to specific conditions eg. excess heat may not affect sativa doms where indica doms may really suffer and visa versa for cold

i always count day 1 as when it actually starts flowering.... maybe you should run a test and try doing it both! see for yourself which you like best. in my experience theres usually a difference of about a week
