when soil dry the water doesn't mix good

You can water with a small watering can, as the smaller droplets of water seem to get absorbed more easily, but in reality that's just because the water is being applied much slower. So personally I just water slower if its got too dry. Don't let it flow over the top and down the sides.

I have heard when water becomes hydrophobic that adding a small amout of dawn liquid dish soap will help.Sorry I do not know the amount.I just water slowly until it absorbs normally. You want to use perlite in your mix also if you aren't.It helps with draining of the soil

It helps if you mist the surface of the soil and come back a few minutes later to slowly water the pot.
The misting sort of breaks the surface tension and makes it easier for the water to go down properly
afterwards. I tend to only get this water beading issue when I let the pots get too dry.

Hope this helps. :tiphat:

yes, dishwashing liquid will work the same as commercial soil wetting agents.

About a teaspoon in 10 litres of water is the ratio.

Another way is to sit the pot in a bucket or tub of water for about 10 minutes, and this will wet all the soil.

I personally don't use a wetting agent in pots, as I don't want the pots to hold too much water, I want them to dry out fairly quickly, like every two days, so the plants go through the wet and dry cycle.

Hey Fred,

Yes, you can avoid dat by not letting your pots get so dry. But, mine get that dry as well. So, I apply about 25% of the total amount of water and allow that to soak in for 30 seconds and apply the other 75%. What runs threw, if any, will be absorbed back into the pot.

Hope that was helpful. :tiphat:

First, use something to break the water tension.
Yucca, dish soap

Next, water your soil until it begins to run off then stop & let it spread through the container for 30 minutes to an hour. Then, come back & finish watering as normal.
