When should I transplant? Pics included

Hi everyone,

Am currently growing up two Nirvana White Rhino girls in plastic cups and I'm wondering whether they're ready to be transplanted into their 12 litre (3 gal) pots?

Some roots streaking down the sides of the cup
Should I let them reach the bottom and then transplant?

Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Happy growing!

Many opinions will flow your way concerning when to transplant.
My timeline depends on plant growth and root growth rates. Your seedling has plenty of time to go before it has to be up-potted.
I let my seedlings/clones root the cup well before transplanting in order to take advantage of the growth spurt.

If the plant is growing at a good rate with a proper wet/dry cycle, you should be ready in two weeks to 18 days with good foliage and root mass.
Ultimately it is up to you to decide how large a plant you want to flower and to know how much stretch will be involved and plan accordingly.

Nice start and good luck.

I totally agree with above ...

perhaps a half strenght feed will hurry your babies up. look a little N deficient to me.

cheers!

I usually wait till they're around the size demonstrated by poisoned dart.

You really should wrap those cups though.. It's not healthy for light to get to the roots...Will be much better in the long run.........

Good Luck

I´m growing the same strain and I´m at about 2 weeks since seed. I overwatered (again) in the small cup phase so I transplanted earlier than I wanted to but it seems to have done the trick with some nice new growth coming on.

Impressed by your cups PD!

Wow man those are some crazy roots in that small cup. Very impressive stuff! Thanks for the advice, I will let them go for a week or two longer in the cups then transplant.

Thanks for the input mate! About the pale colour, I thought the same thing at first too but then I noticed that the other WR girl has dark green and luscious foliage and yet they're both growing in the same soil conditions...weird...

This pheno must be either lightly coloured in the early seedling stages naturally or might need a bit more N than her sister like you said. I will repot them in a week I think into their new organic soil and see if the green colour gets darker.

Thanks for taking a look mate!

Great pick up there vukman! Have just buried the plastic cups deep into the soil mix that they will be transplanted into next. The soil surrounding the cups is now keeping the roots cool and also blocking out the light :)

Hi there Piel! Yeh I'm pretty keen to transplant too mate. The soil the girls are in now is just plain potting soil. Thought I wouldn't bombard them with nutes this early on.

Have some ripper organic soil in pots waiting for these girls and I think they will do the same as yours in the new soil...go nuts that is!

I´m always careful on nutes and it works well enough (there´s quite a lot of nutes in regular soil too) and my 10 lit pots have about 20% vermiculite blended in and I have 2cm of clay pebbles in the bottom of the pots so drainage is OK.

I like the way PD has made holes all around the cup, now I understand how the rooting gets that developed -drainage and air to the roots.
