When do your buds put on the most weight?

Just wondering in your typical indoor grow during which week in flower have you noticed the biggest growth in bud size and weight? I would guess between the 6th and 7th week but of course everything is strain and phenol dependent.

Hey edro,

If your going off a breeders seed packet add two weeks to what they say is the flowering time,

I usually find they do most packing on weight in the last two weeks
Remember when you think it's ready wait a week !

Thanks,
GA

Depends on the strain but week 4, 5 and 6 seems to be a time when major bulking up takes place in indica strains. Sativa dominate strains like chocolope for instance bulks up week 7 and 8. At least that is when they fill in spaces between stems. As said above for the glands to be cloudy or amber use a loop or ad 1-2 weeks to breeders recommendations. One last thing is always try and start the cut before lights on time or keep them in dark. Don't cut just after lights come on or just after they turn off.
Hope that helps.

The last 2-3 weeks.
When they look harvestable, I check with a 60x+ scope.
Sometimes certain genetics will take longer to get those ambers poppin'.
I've found that its good to wait the extra week or two before harvesting.

Its completely strain dependent. Some will pack it on weeks 4-5, some 5-7, some wait till the very end. Just depends on the strain.

not as much as you would think because of the math

if you have 100 plants at 1 ounce each at week 4 and they swell 50% so you have 150 ounces at week 5 for a total of 50 ounces

now lets say those 100 plants start to max out at 2 ounces each in week six (which represents 50% growth week 4&5) and growth slows to 25% in week 6 to 7 thats still 50 ounces and if week 7 to 8 slows to 20% the cumulative growth prior 200 + 50 = 250 x 20% = 50

even tho those numbers were made up for ease of illustration you don't need the same rate of growth on a bigger body of biomass to get the same or greater return

ultimately its maximizing every period of growth that makes full use of the plants potential

I noticed buds put on the most weight when photos
of yields are posted![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]

Seriously, if you know the plants, the period up to 2
weeks prior to chop is the deal. We all learned to wait
a week after we thought it was ready.

I noticed during flush, shrinkage.

Almost as stressful as playing cards for a living!

The buds stop growing when all the pistils have shrivelled and turned brown. Then the flowers are done. A white pistil means the flower is still alive and possibly swelling its calyx.

Nutrient lock out

Nutrient lock out

Now then ppl.

I have what i now know to be nutrient lock out that is seriously affecting my ladies.
I am growing in Coco and was approaching the last couple of weeks of flower (flush time!)
I noticed the bottom leaves were turning yellow and dying really quickly and that some had developed yellow pitting on the leaves. Also the greeny, dying smell that accompanies this. I have had this problem before but as this is only my 3rd grow i had no clue why the universe was doing this to me. I now know the cause, the symptoms and to what i can do to reverse this.

My question is, as i am in the last two weeks and therefore supposed to begin flushing, am i best to drop all nutrients and just flush the plants with PH'd water? Also, what is the chance of my ladies still benefiting from the final week plumping that all growers look forward to?

I am ready for whatever the girls can muster and i realise its nothing like it could have been but it would be nice to know that all is not lost and they may yet pack on a little weight.

Advice please!!

MicSen1,
Find the appropriate forum & start a thread please. You will get a much better response to your questions.

if the last two weeks gives the most bud increase, what is the best solution to getting crosses but also max bud mass?

when is the best time to try to pollinate some buds? if the seeds an take 3-6 weeks to ripen then is recommended to wait till the last 2-3 weeks and let it overflower (will it also self pollinate and confuse about the seeds or does pollination at some point keep the plant from selfing)?

i found that early pollination halted calyx production one time when some plants i had were just sexing and an early male dusted them before any buds were formed, there were not many seeds because no buds really developed yet and then only the seeds developed and not many.

in the last 2 weeks, i don't know if more calyx are made or if some other aspect of the bud increases in size and mass)

do calyxs increase in mass or turn to seeds? depending on receiving pollen?

with a 70 day or 120 day strain, how would one maximize bud production and also get 50 to a 100 seeds from a plant?

If all you want is 50-100 seeds that's easy to do. When I want a few seeds I typically only pollinate a few bottom branches and usually get 200-300 seeds. It takes roughly 6 weeks to make fully mature seeds. So, I'd say pollinate 42 days before you intend to harvest.

I typically pollinate those bottom branches at about 21 days in flower, that way I know the seeds will be fully mature when harvesting a 63-70 day stain. Never had any issues with the seeds nor the quality of the top colas.

Then something is WRONG. Very very wrong my friend

You should never be shrinking in flush. . . . This is where I do most of my swelling at the end----- during flush

I really tend to think that what happens wk 3-5 sets the tone for overall yield. I can turn down the light intensity in the last two weeks and still get the yield if everything went well 3-5 or 6. Nothing you can do if flower sites and strong stems aren't there going into the last two weeks.
