ok,,,everyone has said and heard both,,, but which is right? for time in flower,,,do you start couting days,,,,,,,when you put it in 12/12,,,,,,,,,,or when you spot the first white hair,,,,,the V ,,,,pistol????,,,,whatever those are !!lol
EVERYONE,Meaning breeders start counting from the day the lights are flipped. That whole from the initiation of hairs thing I think comes from outdoor where the light flipping never really happens its more of a slow transition. But I will say this those that count from the day they see hairs and then go by the finish date of the breeder will probably have pot thats actually finished cus for the most part 90% of strains need to go 10 to 14 days longer than the time given by the breeder. That time frame is usually based on the earliest that the plant can be sucessfully harvested. If you want 20% amber trichs youll be waiting at least a week longer than what the breeder states.Just my two cents.
gromer is correct. You see the seed companies are out there in a competition to have the earliest finishers. They take license with the actual time, and probably have a lot more wattage and better experience to get them to finish earlier than we can at home. It is kind of like the fuel economy sticker on a new car. If they say 8 weeks it is probably more like 10 weeks. You will know by the color of the trichomes (and smell too, I feel) when to harvest. It is all just part of the experience of growing.
I read about people growing outdoors getting their plants ripped off and it seems that it always happens before the buds are mature. The stupid theives. If the buds were ripe they would be hanging someplace.
Anyway, gromer is correct.
Get a cheap microscope if you can and look at the trichomes. That is the best way to determine your harvest. Still count the days though, as if you grow that species again, reveg or clone those numbers will be good for future reference.
neither, you check the trichs.
If you want to count, contact the breeder of the strain you are growing. The subject has been discussed time and time again, hit the search button and read about it if you want.
I'm with GMT, the trich's tell you when there ready, a time table is just that, my little chicken shit microscope has stopped my many a time, from the impatience little kid in me. LOL Chi ne he
I always start the count from when I see the first **** hairs. It makes no sense to me to start counting at first flip of 12/12, because my plants will never seem to be ready when when I calculate from that day.
The trich's do tell the story as previously mentioned.
sorry that was a little off, i meant to say that i start counting from the time i confirm they are flowering...i.e. when new pistils form with the new growth
I usually see sex in week 4-5 of veg,,,,before i flip 12/12. It would be daft to start counting from then,,,,especially if im not planning on flowering for another week or two
Count day 1 as the day you flip to 12/12, but as newRandude says.......if "they" say 8 weeks,,,count on it being nearer 10
The day after their first 12 hour night is day one of the flowering cycle. I thought everyone knew that flowering was photoperiod dependent. Yeah, they don't start spitting out hairs the day you cut the cycle obviously. But if your plants are in a 12/12 lighting cycle they are in the flowering period, period. I'm not saying you can't count from whenever you want to, but if you want to count the actual number of days the plant is in the flowering cycle, that's how it is done properly.
If growing seeds that give you an approximate duration of flower, then the correct time to start counting is when you can confirm the plants are indeed flowering i.e around 2 weeks after 12/12.
I really dont understand why all the fuss over the time of the flowering. I know we all want an aproximate date, but I gotta say that there's a averageof time, and then you still have to wait for the final product, The trichs are the key! I know that my hit will be ready in 45-60 days, why fuss over the extra time or lack of extra time? retorical question.
Hello Hello. Happy weekend to all, and their dogs too.
In my experience i have found different results, from many varieties.
For example :
Indica - Fast flowering (especially when plant is mature ). And clones will finish quicker as they are already mature. But still, it's better for you and more productive on the plant to allow some time to mature (from clone). I have found that when growing single cola plants they finish not just quicker but more compact. Also its maybe something to do with not stressing the plant (as the plant is matured IN veg and allowed to flower in PEACE).
I grew an Indica dominant (POK X Black Domina)plant last year under HPS. for Vegged in the garden for over 3 and half months.First 4 weeks under 250watt, 6 weeks under 400watt. After 10 weeks of flowering, and 3 days of darkness. I had some of the most potent smoke i have ever had full or flavour covered in resin, super solid compact buds etc etc.... I had tied and trained her, to receive 14+ tops (maybe 16). After trimming + 10 days drying, she weighed in at 100 grams.
She was also under HPS with a Cinnamon from Femaleseeds. Also 100 gram Beauty!
I have found with sativas (dominant girls) that a long veg time is very necessary. If there is not much roots the plant can take ages to finish. But with some hybrids (50IN/50SA) they will flower, but take a wee bit longer. The downfall is you'll end up with a lot less to smoke (unless fron clones).
