When do you need a dehumidifier?

Hi all,

When and how do you know when you need a a dehumidifier? My only experience has been 16 plants in small soil containers under a 400 watt bulb in a large room. Humidity was not an issue at all. I realize the obvious answer is measure the humidity ans see what's up. But I'm planning a new grow with a 1000 or 2000 watts in the flowering room and want to know when I should anticipate needing a dehumidifier. Can any one offer any advice when I'll need a dehumidifier?

The 3 setups I was thinking about were all in coir as a growing medium:

1) 6 or 8 trees in larger containers vegged for a month or so around a vertical 1000 watt bulb.

2) 32 plant stadium set up in medium sized containers. 16 on each side with 2 rows of 8 on each side. 2 1000 watt bulbs hung in the stadium with about 2 weeks of veg time before flowering.

3) 64 plant stadium setup in smaller containers. 32 on each side with 2 rows of 16 on each side. 2 1000 watt bulbs hung in the stadium with 1 week of veg time before flowering.

The flower room is 20' x 12' with a tall 15' vaulted ceiling.

Thanks for any input

Get a RH meter (simple digital thermometer with one included) you want roughly 70% RH in stretch (flower stage) then 50% or less during flower for optimum environment for PM prevention plus....but then again I have an unusually high RH condition in my grow, everyone has different and unique conditions.

Basically, if you plan on keeping your exhaust fan running 24/7 you probably won't need a dehumidifier. If you live in an area with high humidity you may need one during the night cycle to prevent condensation. Generally, the heat from the lamps during day cycle is enough to keep RH within reasonable limits.

If you plan on using CO2 then you will need a dehumidifier, and AC.

if your humidity is too high and you cannot manage it- you need a dehumidifier.

i disagree with the above statement. you can run your exhaust 24/7 and still have high RH
and can really do nothing to help it out.

especially when running coco, or soil. this will also depend on your pot sizes. the more water youre adding to your mediums the more RH you will have. especially on a dark cycle. and with the numbers youre wanting to run....

get a dehumidifier and end your problems before they start.
