When did the terms "mids" and "regs" get popular

when i smoked for 15 years we had a few terms

we had commercial weed aka mexi brick aka schwagg and it was either green bud or brown bud.

we also had "kind" bud which is like we smoke now we sometimes said "krypto" or kryppie or often many said hydro thou most was soil. (i was one of the few willing to pay the kind of prices they wanted its was $400 a zip even way back then in the eighties)

finally we had "homegrown" which was not like our homegrown of today.

then i quit for nine years. When i smoked again(about 12 years ago) The new term
"mids" arrived and "regs". Regs i assume was short for regular aka what we called commercial. Mids thou was confusing as some of what i saw called mids was just as bad regs and some of what i saw called hydro was piss poor genetics and at best "mids"

just curious if the terms in your area changed over time and how

"kind bud" was a name people used before "mids" in my area. You had "kind bud" and "mersh"; mersh was regs, short for commercial.

Around 2001-2002 I started hearing the terms "mids" and "middies" (slightly better quality Mexican import), this is about the time "mersh" started being called regs which is know called schwag. I wouldn't touch regs with a 10 foot pole. I hear there is decent mids, but I probably wouldn't smoke that either.

About the time "mids" started being used, I started hearing about "beasters" which was a step above mids but not as good as "headee's". "headee's" was the good shit.

I don't know if this was the start of these words, for all I know people in my area were 10 years behind the times.

Back then homegrown didn't have the best connotation. People kind of looked down on it, mainly because it was grown by an amateur, most of the time outdoors or in some hack indoor set up, premature, usually seeded, chemmy, unflushed crap, that made you choke.

Not like today where home grown reigns supreme, in most cases. Most of the bud I see for sale is garbage, even the best stuff cant hold a candle to my indoor or the bud you see here. If I didn't grown my own I probably wouldn't smoke.

Where I lived we had schwag; better known as brown frown, brick bud or dirt weed which was mexican brick weed usually brown with mashed seeds and often other suprises like twine, rocks, dead rodents or birds and the odd huarche sandal. then there was mersh which was the green version of schwag not as bad, then came middies which were mid grade buds, lightly compressed with fewer seeds and some taste and a decent smell, sometimes even visible crystals. Then after that was kind bud which was anything not compressed and few if any seeds, pretty much what we strive for today, and the highest grade of kind was the dank which was the most primo buds. Hope this helped.

I propose a new simpler system, Garbage for that stuff you see other people smoke and weed for the shit you smoke yourself. Simples

I never knew it by any of the modern names till the late 80's into the early 90's. I always heardthe uses of brick or Shwag (SHitWeAllGet), Midgrade or mid's was not brick but not kind and had seeds but had some crystals (usually around the Christmas Nugs time), Kind bud was usually local grower with "ok" talents product, Beasters was commercial "dro" prettier than it smoked potency wise, then you had "exotics" top shelf nugs usually with a name and a price tag.

Now they have "Corn or Popcorn" which is mids.

early 2000s high school days...

regs 10 a g 100-120 oz
schwag (brown brick headache weed) 50 oz only

anything better was simply called hydro/dro (lol)
20 a g all the way up
oddly enough you could get hooked up for 80 an oz, would consider it by todays standards pretty decent homegrown

seemed the regs at school was getting fronted one way or another so price was set but the better local/semi-local could be had just as cheap if you werent a dbag of sorts

I'm an old fart & most of my connections are old farts, we speak the same language which doesn't include 'mids' 'regs' 'beasters' or otherwise; I might be told "you're really gonna dig it man." and that's good enough for me.......

I was in HS in the 90's and I remember when I first got some dank (which is what I called quality bud then and still do) the person selling it was calling it kind bud. It was nice greenhouse, local grown FAT buds that knocked your socks off. Other people had brown mexican schwag, 2 g's for $10 (they called it a dimebag of weed, some called it "regs" because that was their regular) or "mids" which was actually smokable outdoor with seeds, ostensibly domestically grown for $10 a g. That was lime green and had visible trichs with about 10 healthy seeds in a quarter oz.

Same guy was still selling kind bud for years that eventually degraded down to what became known as beasters, uncured (barely dry) often moldy trash that ranges in smell from cabbage to hay. Hence began my quest to grow the dank (which was no where to be found for a bit)

Then came "headies" which started out as dank, but slowly degraded down to chem rocks that have been in a kief tumbler WAAAYYY too long.

If you want the dank, you gotta grow it yourself, otherwise you are smoking nute salts and pesticides, and most of the terps are soaked up in a plastic bag.

Mid grade is what we called stuff that looked kind, but was relatively inexpensive and available for commercial distribution 20+ years ago. Typically it was green, uncompressed "regs" from places like Arizona.
Regs were also called "dirt, schwag, etc." and was as you expected: compressed brick weed that was uncompressed to a degree and bagged for distribution.
Kind has always been just that.....kind bud...

Im lost......we called it dirt weed, weed, and herb.....I suppose there is life past the edge of the forest. Perhaps in that nearby field.....

Oh I forgot, seedy and dang seedy. Anyone remember knowing someone who thought Sinsemilla was a country seedless pot came from long ago???

Well this is some bullshit right here.....

No, but I knew guys who called/labelled any nice smelling/looking weed "SinceBud".

They had no earthly idea what Sinsemilla really was or how to spell it, but they pimped it like it was the holy grail.
