when did cloning first occur?

Is there a known who, what, where, when on this? And when did it become well known?

I dont know for sure but I think taking cutting off a plant and getting a clone can be done with several food crops and has done so for I want to say hundreds of years? I very well could be wrong.
But I always hear about cuts from the late 70s and 80s and Im curious as to when people started finding mother plants and doing clone crops instead of seed.

I'd say man has been fiddling with plants long before the Pharaohs, but in my book 'The Cannabis Bible' 1970-ish, it is mentioned that ''it could be possible to clone or graft cannabis, as it is done with hops, a related plant, that said back in 1973-ish

Back then we grew in the bush or under T8's, very early days

Comeing from a horticultural family meant rooting and cloneing was common knowledge and tried it on weed as early as 1970 , with long flowering bagseed that would not finish outdoors in the UK , but the lack of suitable lights and no interweb thingy to spread info fast meant few growers took clones prior to 1980 , but would preserve a good plant in seed form instead if they bothered at all.

Propagation from cuttings is accurately documented from Roman times along with grafting, and they certainly did not discover the techniques themselves.

I've read referances to cloneing in Egyptian hieroglyphs, so a couple thousand years before Jesus said many will come in using my name.

amazon tribes use cuttings to propagate their crops and I would think they have done it for thousands of years.

Guess it would have been noticed and exploited not long after permanent agriculture based settlements started , takeing cuttings from selected fruiting trees and shrubs.
