When cloning in simple water and nothing else are there any useful additions?

Hi ICMAG!

We got a beautiful hand made mini vase recently and of course, I stuck some scrap cuttings in it because I've always got too many, and just kept it in my workspace window ledge.

They ALL rooted with zero additions to my pH'd water. No hormones or gels or powders.

Obviously they got scraggly along the way

But it absolutely worked and I'm assuming these are ready for transplant any time

But obviously I want to know more.. that's why we post here, right

So, Any tips to keep them in even better condition than this or happier I should say?

Anything I could be adding to the water? I have all the popular amendments and additives

Anything worth foliaring? Or feeding?

Do YOU have a strategy for simple water cloning your cuts?

I want to hear about it! 🙏🏻♥️💯

Thank you ICMAG!

I would put a small clear plastic bag over it.
But I prefer cloning directly in root plugs because I don´t have to transplant.

Interesting, okay, I would not have considered that, thank you for the reply!

I usually do use the plugs as well, or even directly into soil, I've gotten the hang of all of the cloning mediums quite well but honestly nothing has been easier than dropping them into a vase so far! And not to mention I would keep sticking cuts in the vase anyways because I just always am removing foliage anyways, this would be more than sufficient for my small grow

Thanks again!

I personally prefer to trim the fan leaves, use the classic trays with inserts with 1" x 1" slots (72 slots per tray, minus the perimeter, equals 40 usable slots), skip the perimeter cubes all the way around to avoid plants/clones being against the damp plastic dome's inside walls, and use some -low- level phosphorus and potassium (promotes stem and root growth), as well as a source of ^calcium that's not apt to disrupt your ph too badly.

The Calcium also helps to promote root growth.

I've had people both on my tiny little canadian discord server , and also remember hearing on the grandmaster level podcast recently, that recent belief has shifted away from trimming the fan leaves to only being recommended if there's airflow problems that need resolving, or space issues where the cuts are too close together - but that a lot of people are no longer recommending to trim the leaves

I'm a total noob so I absolutely don't have an opinion and can certainly trim them!
Thank you both for the replies

As long as all your strains respond like that to be put in a vase,I don't see a reason to change your style.
I'll try this method myself in my next grow. If I'm happy with it, I'll stick to it

Yep, I know folks who haven't trimmed fan leaves on cuttings in many years and swear by that. I've just done it otherwise in the past 30 years or so, so I keep on doing it.

The power of old habits.

The plugs are so easy to pop in my mix to plant for me personally.
