With lots of us living in relative isolation at the moment I thought I'd introduce a more personal kind of subject on something non-political or conspiracy related, although it will probably generate as much debate. Myers-Briggs theory is an interesting approach to better understanding yourself and others, so seems a good way for me to get to know everyone a little better too. The last conversation I found on this here was over a decade ago.

MBTI is a way of classifying personality to describe a surprising amount about you, but it's not immune to criticisms or mistyping. It is based on the work of Carl Jung and appears to be the inspiration for many other tests like the Big 5. It's practically applied in business recruitment and personal development, and applied by many to friends, family, famous people and fictional characters for fun.

There are many typing tests available online and lots of resources and forums exploring the 16 personality types and their cognitive functions. Just search MBTI for lots more info. Each type is a combination of 4 letters, in short based on:

Introvert(I) or Extrovert(E)?
Introverts are reserved and energized by their inner thoughts
Extroverts are outgoing and energized by active social events

Sensor(S) or Intuitive(N)?
Sensors are pragmatic and detail oriented, remembering solid facts
Intuitives are about big picture possibilities, remembering meaningful impressions

Thinker(T) or Feeler(F)?
Thinkers look for logical principles and notice inconsistencies
Feelers prefer compassionate values and aim for harmony

Judging(J) or Perceiving(P)?
Judgers are orderly, decisive and task-oriented
Perceivers are adaptable, open and play-oriented

Which combination are you? Do the descriptions online fit you? Perhaps our type even relates to the kind of weed we like?

Feel free to ask any questions or discuss any thoughts.
Check it out and share your type!

Been a long time since I took it, but I believe I wound up INTJ. Seems as reasonable as anything.

Says INFJ-T
Also says 75% introverted but on the Eysenck personality test I score a 7 making me an ambivert. When different test give different results, its hard to trust either.

Mediator
Personality
INFP-A / INFP-T - is what I got - is that good?

- Mediator personalities are true idealists, always looking for the hint of good in even the worst of people and events, searching for ways to make things better. While they may be perceived as calm, reserved, or even shy, Mediators have an inner flame and passion that can truly shine. Comprising just 4% of the population, the risk of feeling misunderstood is unfortunately high for the Mediator personality type – but when they find like-minded people to spend their time with, the harmony they feel will be a fountain of joy and inspiration.-

Being a part of the Diplomat Role group, Mediators are guided by their principles, rather than by logic (Analysts), excitement (Explorers), or practicality (Sentinels). When deciding how to move forward, they will look to honor, beauty, morality and virtue – Mediators are led by the purity of their intent, not rewards and punishments. People who share the Mediator personality type are proud of this quality, and rightly so, but not everyone understands the drive behind these feelings, and it can lead to isolation.

At their best, these qualities enable Mediators to communicate deeply with others, easily speaking in metaphors and parables, and understanding and creating symbols to share their ideas. Fantasy worlds in particular fascinate Mediators, more than any other personality type. The strength of their visionary communication style lends itself well to creative works, and it comes as no surprise that many famous Mediators are poets, writers and actors. Understanding themselves and their place in the world is important to Mediators, and they explore these ideas by projecting themselves into their work.

* I'd say it's remarkably accurate - and kinda spooky - because of it - lol

Hi all. Thanks for your input. Forgot to add, I'm an INTP.

@xavier: going by the old thread, it seems there's a lot of INTJs here. And you are indeed regarded as a reasonable type.

@GMT: MBTI determines between whether you live more in the inner or outer world and whether you get most of your energy from alone time or others. There's no ambivert score in MBTI, but everyone has a combination of Introverted and Extroverted functions, meaning all are effectively ambiverts. Your primary function is Introverted Intuition (Ni), but you will mostly use and show your second, Extroverted Feeling (Fe) when socializing. INFJs are believed to be among the rarest types and are pretty distinctive.
As for your trust, does the description feel fitting?

@Gypsy: Glad you enjoyed it. It was weirdly accurate for me too! They're all good. There is no best type, just equally different, each bringing their specialist skills to society and each other. It is possible you naturally get on with or understand some types more than others however, and might find it useful to learn the type of those close to you.

Yes it was accurate, very, but I didn't read any of the other types. With star signs, most will say they are accurate, even if reading someone else's by mistake. Though being the rarest does feed my ego, so I'll go along with it.

Took MBTI many years ago, professionally administered by MB, at a local community college. When the results were in there was a one-on-one appointment with a rep who went over it and explained what it meant and provided a printout - not sure that fella’s title/affiliation, just know he wasn’t faculty/staff. Wasn’t overly interested in my “personality” type at the time. I had also taken the Strong Interest Inventory and was more interested in those results.

Some eleven years later I was cleaning out a filing cabinet and ran across my printed MBTI report. Found myself shocked at how accurate it rang. By then the internet was the information superhighway we know it as so I was able to read all about my type. Took a couple online versions and still tested as originally: INTJ. Also took the Enneagram Personality Test and tested as 5; which is supposedly common for INTJ & INTP types.

Not only is the accuracy of my type interesting, but once I delved further into it, it truly helped me with interpersonal skills - of which mine were limited. I even bought the book, “Please Understand Me II” by David Keirsey. His work is associated with MBTI and one of the most widely used tests.

Good to know most are finding it accurate and useful. Looking at the poll, there's so far mostly INxx here, particularly the INTx types. Perhaps we just like forums, tests or weed.
I'd be interested to hear from the Sensor types too.

Does anyone have a strong preference on the kind of weed effects they like? I've met SPs who like strong hybrids and I know a highly active ENTJ who only smokes Indica to relax, while I'm naturally relaxed (some would say lazy) and am always searching for motivating smokes that make me want to be productive, social or get creative. Are we seeking the piece we're missing, or enhancing the cognitive features of our personality?

@Mr Jay: Welcome to the secretive misunderstood club.
@shmavis: Certainly many of the IxTx types can have their difficulties understanding and engaging with others. INTx tend to find learning interpersonal knowledge through theory like this very useful. I'm happy to hear it has helped you. I too tested as Type 5 on the enneagram, but I find it easier work out others types using MBTI.
@GMT: Agreed on Astrology. I've looked into all 16 of these and they look pretty clear cut to me. I'm yet to personally know anyone who doesn't fit the code. Several INFJs I know sure like their special status ;)
@Sunshineinabag: Very True. It's esoteric madness, but Freuds angle on development terrified me as much.

To answer your Q, I smoke exclusively indica, with as heavy a couch lock as I can get. I don't know if that's purely to quieten the noise of my mind or a reaction to all the speed and LSD I used to take in my late teens. I can't handle that effect now.

I smoke primarily to slow down mind and body. I do like to occasionally wake & bake with an uplifting/motivating/clear and focused high. And certainly enjoy trippy/psychedelic (as near to hallucinogenic as possible) effects. Have zero interest in racing heart/thoughts and or paranoia inducing effects.

I think I am enhancing my cognition as formulation of thought processes (language in particular) seems clearer and more easily structured - at least in my mind.

Curious as to your intent with "working out others' types using MBTI." Simple curiosity?

Good thread topic.
