What's your method for cracking a lot of seeds?

Hello.. it's been a minute since i have posted anything. I have been working on the perfect outdoor guerrilla strain(resistance, potency, yield and taste) for years. And doing so find myself cracking a high volumes of seeds, which is quite tedious. So was just wondering what methods has made it easier for you? Look forward to your replys!

Paper towel method works good for easy transport. or you can start right in a seed tray 72 at a time i think.

Peace GG

@sativa92 need more info man , you carrying these things into the field as seedlings or whats the transport of the seedlings to the field . ? what size ect .
i can tell everyone a way to have 175 planted in soil in pots in 15 minutes start to finish .so in an hour you can be watering 700 seedlings there abouts . that fast enough ?

175 plants in 15 minutes . ( maybe 172 ) can't remember . here,s how .
i will try too explain in easy steps :

1. you fill a bread crate with 50mm space saver pots =175/172 in total . so all your empty pots are now sitting on a table in a bread crate .
2. get your seed raising mix , tip it over the hole top of the pots filling every pot level ( you need to do this gently no compacting the soil, i can't stress this enough)
brush off excess potting mix off . i just turn my hand on a 45 degrees , move the soil gently over the pots ( so now the mix is all level with to the top rim ).
3. you turn one of the pots your using ( a spare one ) upside down . you use the base of it to compact the soil in every pot 8-10 mm down .
4 now your ready for your seeds . put seeds in .
5. get spare seed raising mix tip over the top of the pots . same deal use your hand on a 45 degree , level off . dirt will be flush/level with rim of the pots .
6. water
if i haven,nt been clear enough ask .

the 2 back crates here are the bread crates( 175/172 in total each crate . the front crates a just normal nursery crates . same principle

[/IMG]

15 min per crate , theres minimal seed raising mix wasted as all the pots fit flush in the crate no gaps . the table will collect any soil that was over from levelling off .

[/IMG]

ready to go to there new home in 3 weeks from germination. you need to pay extra attention with water on the pots round the edges they dry out faster with the direct sun . now i,ve already pulled any runty or undesirables from these crates , hence the empty spots .

now i,m deleting these pics in a day or so . i put them as a reference . so you see the bread crates and pot size .

everyone understand? if theres enough interest i could do a step by step with pic,s if it wasn't clear enough ?

For almost anything I grow like tomatoes, watermelon, yellow beans, cannabis seeds, etc.
I like to soak the seeds in cold water for 8 - 12 hours in a glass and then place them inside
a folded moist cloth.

I used to use paper towels. But I find they can dry too fast and stick to the seeds.
A cloth doesn't stick to the seeds and doesn't rip when it gets real wet either. A
dark cloth makes it easier to see the white rootlet coming out as well.

Jeez i forgot about this thread.. Thanks everyone for your contributions, so many different ways to start this amazing plant!

I'm a traditional guy, just put starting soil in small pots (3"x3" or so), wet the soil, add the seed, keep an eye on it so it doesn't dry out in the next couple days. Simple and effective.

Corky's Germination and Warm Water Trick Tek Combined

Corky's Germination and Warm Water Trick Tek Combined

I like using my own warm water trick to speed things up.
Works like a charm. But you have to be very careful.
If you have a heating pad or something it's probably not needed to do this. But if your place is on the cool side it helps.

  • Corky's Germination and Warm Water Trick Tek Combined

  • Place seeds in cold water for 8 hours in a glass or something like that.

  • Drain the water and then put seeds in folded moist cloth.

  • Each day, for the next week or so. Run the tap and wait until the water
is lukewarm only. It can't be hot. Pour some water onto the cloth by hand.
Again, if the water is too hot for your hand it will harm the seeds.

  • Leave the seeds soak for about 30 seconds in the warm water.

  • Drain the water and place seeds in the moist cloth back in warm place to germinate.

  • I do this for a week and normally any seeds that will germinate seem to pop up fast.

  • I suspect a warm bath each day really must speed up the germination enzymes in the seeds or something.

  • Again, if the water is too hot for your hand it will harm the seeds so be careful.
Note: I just tested 10 Kerala seeds that are over 5 years old and 15 Custom Haze Hybrid seeds
that I custom made at the same time. Well 3 Kerala seeds have germinated in the past 24 hours
with one of my Custom Haze hybrids so far. Sativas normally don't germinate overnight in my
experience.

I bet they like the lukewarm bath each day. :comfort:

BTW: My Custom Haze is a Sensi Northern Lights crossed with Ace's Oldtimer Haze. Should be nice seeing how that goes.

Easy as hell way, with very little time or effort needed, and very strong seedlings.

- Put all seeds in glass of water for 24 hours
- Stir seeds, leave for 24 more hours
- Place in damp paper towel
- Put all sprouts into Jiffy Pellets, for max numbers roll jiffy's between fingers to make them taller and thinner, so more can be fit in a small area (I can fit easily 80 in my PC case)
- Let jiffys sit in STANDING water halfway up each pellet, they will all die if they are not damp, jiffys dry out very easily as well, so check at a bare minimum of once a day to make sure all are damp with some water to suck up
- Let seedlings go until they have some roots like this (usually a week maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less)

An example of some tightly packed ones (definitely few hundred, maybe a thousand if I remember correctly):

Lots of seeds you can get a seed starter tray. Bout the size of those small cloning rockwool cubes. Very cheap at garden stores. Just be ready to transplant asap..

I soak for 12 to 24 hrs. Then into the moist soil.

Soaking will create more uniform seed poppin out the soil.

Soil is wet. Poke a finger hole down to your first knuckle. Drop in presoaked seed. Cover and i will not be light. I repack it o er the seed. Make sure its fine particles not wood chips or coco chucks. Will make the seed remove its own shell. Vs a pia. Too high and that shell might stay on.

Works for any size container. If numbers r low smallest id go is a dixie cup beer cup. Biggest is a gallon. For starters.
