What's wrong?

:badday: I put 21 seeds into dirt cups on Monday night. I used Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix as my substrate. I used a marked pencil and made a 1 inch deep hole. I then placed the seed down into the hole, and gently placed the dirt over top. I watered the dirt with a teaspoon using only one ts per cup. It is now Friday morning, and ZERO cotyledons are showing. None, Zilch, Nada! Nothing has poked through at all! I am so pissed off! I do not know what went wrong??? Did I use the wrong dirt? :pointlaug Please help me. :badday:

Not only not enough water, IMO you put them kinda deep, I only put them in soil after germination, so that I can see the progress of growth or non growth. I germinate first because not all seed will "pop", It depends on how old they are ect. Miracle grow soil is the worst for beginner's dude, MJ HATES WOOD! It's made for mostly out growing, indoor growing usally has probs, Good luck

Use a common reciepe for soil dude, organic soil, perlite, bat guano, and dolomite lime. in my expirence, that has been FABULOUS! nice dark green plants and vigorous growth, and very low maintaince and fuss!

I agree with crazy that an inch is pretty deep, also that u shld use a germination method first.
I personally just pop beans in a glass of water and place somewhere warm, such as airing cupboard or such, when they have cracked open n u can see the startings of the taproot, i then pot them up, and i bury in the soil about 5millimetre to 10millimetre deep at most, and then cover pots with some cling film or place pots in a humidity dome, to keep moisture on the soil, till they break the surface, then once they above ground n opened up i take off the humidity cover..

the best depth for any seed when planting diretly into the ground or dirt is double the length of seed itself. After the ground or soil has been watered to ensure proper moisture level for fastest germination.

when i water freshly planted seed or clones i use a spray bottle on mist, i mist the soil untill it start to drain out the bottom drainage holes. misting the soil will prevent the seed from sinking into soil farther then was planted, very important to keep soil moist during the time from seed planted untill approx 10 days after sprout. the 1st 10-14 days of a sprouts life is a danger period the plant can dampen off and die for any reason mainly drying out >

The last time I saw someone ask this question was back on OG......Not a very common one, that's for sure.

Just follow everyone's germination advice (i.e pick a method & try it yourself) and watch miracles happen.

Thanks for the help. One problem I found was the instructions to germinate Mandala seeds. On their instructions to put a 1.5cm-2cm (1 inch) hole with your finger or pencil proved totally wrong. After I dug a little of the dirt off the top, some of the seedlings were poking through. Indeed this was way too deep! :yoinks:

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=29917

The instructions on this post need to be changed a little. I am so bummed out that I got only a 20% germination rate on my seeds. The instructions on the post need to make the hole .25cm-.75cm deep, maybe at the very most 1cm deep.

Since the addition of more water, I have 5 seedlings out of 21 that sprouted. So out of the eleven Hashberry and ten Aurora Borealis, only a handful have sprouted. :badday: I just feel like a fucktard to use the wrong soil, underwater them, and plant them too deep. :pointlaug

So from now on, I will use seed starting soil mix, pre water the substrate to get it moist, and place the seed a length or two of the seed into the soil. Thanks to all that have helped. I hope to get more Hashberry and Aurora Borealis seeds to try again sometime soon the right way.

er 1.5cm deep is about right. 1" however is about 3cm and probably too deep, although it will do it no harm.

drench the soil, make a hole, cover it up, turn on your floro lights and keep the area warm, come back in a week and it'll be breaking the surface.

^^^ Absolutley correct. ^^^

ALSO! Miracle Grow fertilizer/seeding starting mix is a great mix to use. I use Miracle Grow potting soil right off the bat, and I get nice dark green plants and vigorous growth. (The bag that says feeds up to 3 months)

Miracle Grow rocks
