What's wrong with my cuttings?

Hi, I've taken some clones from plants which I grew and then re-vegged. The cuttings began to grow a couple of days after I put them in a propagator in a 60/40 mix of compost and perlite. But the growth has stopped and the leaves have become a distinct yellow which started at the tips and have now spread. I took the lid off the propagator thinking that maybe the temperatures were getting too high inside.

Is there anything i can do to help save my cuttings? I'm going away for 4 months at the end of April so time is of the essence

thanks

PS no digital camera at the moment so I can't send pics

hey indigo

Hum...maybe cuz it´s from a reveged plant..but i´m not sure...i also use a propagator for my clones, and i have 100% success..the only time i get those yellow at the tips is when they get roots...and then i just put them in bigger vases and it goes away, what is ur cutting medium???
Here is a pic of my clones...i put them in small plastic bottles and cups, and just keep the humidity high inside the box.

How long since u first cut them and put them in the cloner? are they still in the cloner? or are u saying they have rooted and then u put them in the compost?

Indigo-

My experience is that cuttings yellow as they root. They don't yet have the ability to pull nutes from the soil/medium, so they have to take stored energy from the leaves to grow roots. Once the roots have formed enough, the plants should start to grow.

Good luck & good growing!

how long have they been rooting for? mine took about 2 weeks to get roots and start growing again. mine also had the tips of the leaves yellowing and one set of lower leaves dieing totally. but the new growth and side shoots were a nice green and grew well.

tbh i think your expecting too much from them, just leave them alone for a few weeks and they will turn out fine.

Cut off the tips anyway the way silverhaze did to reduce transpiration area and "lighten the load",I'll take the top 25% of most fans when rooting cuts

and what if someone takes cuttings from the bottom of the plant? they dont need the leaves cutting as they are very small already.

I take all my cuts from the bottom of the plant, doesnt mean the surface area of the fans cant use a little trim its almost always beneficial

The 60% compost is likely too hot and throwing the ph down, as the perlite is no buffer. Vermiculite would buffer some, but the compost should still be less than 50% of the mix say:
33% Compost,
33% Perlite,
33% Vermiculite,
Mixed and flushed, pressed of excess liquids, and potted with 1% liquid trace elements and or powdered lime.

If you can't get a new medium, flush and feed micronutrients like diluted lime and or Cal-Mag. Did you use the compost unflushed, was it store bought, or did you make it? May be too late but at least for next time. Was that an experimental cuttings' mix, or had you used that before successfully?

Slickster's right,I'm sure seedliongs would yellow in compost too its not a good medium for unrooted cuts.Try 50% perlite 50% vermiculite for a good cloning medium, almost impossible to over/under water.I just use rw cubes in a misted dome
