what's wrong with 24/0 lighting

Well as the title states what is so wrong with a 24/0 light schedule? I do it and it seems fine. Does it produce slower growth or something? I relize it's not natural for the plant but hell neither is growing indoors under artificial lights and reflectors and using fertilizer. So what are the pros and cons of a 24/0 light schedule? Im a curious fellow and if i get good enough reason I would be open to changing my light schedule. I always see ppl say the roots grow in the dark but my plants that run 24/0 have an abundance of roots so whats the deal?

I've always used 24/0 except for flower. It's a convenience thing. One less timer timer to deal with, one less thing to keep up with. Cannabis is a tough and resilient plant. IMO it doesn't give a shit about 24/0. All it cares about is how much dark it needs to initiate flowering.

I ran 24/0 in veg FOR EVER. Nothing "wrong" with it in my opinion. Then I moved back to CA where the electricity prices are crazy high, and I started to look at every aspect of my power usage that I could reduce. I switched to 18/6 for that reason.

Peeps say 18/6 lets the plant "rest" but I never had anything but great results under 24. But Im having great results on 18/6 and saving money...

I clone under 18/6 as well but Im sure from past experience they root a little faster and grow a little quicker under 24. But not a big enough difference for me. I need to cut costs.

I should add I use a combo of T12's, T5's, and 600w halide for veg.

Ya i run cfls led light bulbs and one fluro for veg and only cfls for flower but it doesn't even dent my electric bill. To be fair im a bit of a vampire cause I am a insomniac and usually sleep during the day when I do sleep and i dont use alot of lights in my home so my bill is pretty low the Mrs. works night shift and she like to use Christmas lights for lights thus why we don't use much electricity. So 18/6 is more or less energy conservation then?

I veg mother stock and takes large amounts of cuttings daily (I fill a tray of 50 up every day) and have played with every hour setting. In the end I run 24hrs with a 6hr dark period a couple times each week when sprayed. It's simple, more light equals more energy which equals more growth. This also means more water, electricity, nutes etc. Unless you need large quantities of clones quickly then I'd recommend a few hours of dark unless you've got cheap electricity. The additional growth is measurable with 24hrs but do you really need it might be the better question, its not that much more growth.

True that. I go and sit with my girls all the time. I hate my insomnia so much it sucks when I end up being up for a couple days

Is it 24 hr light that may cause plants to flower when taken outside??? Other than that I see no probs...

Umm no not unless there is atleast 12 hours of darkness outside. I grow entirely inside tho and have a seperate chamber for flower which is on a timer for 12/12

Some people flower at 13 11... say it yields better. Strain dependant of course

24 is cool when first starting with small seedlings, once you graduate to an actual veg box with 400w HID a 18/6 works better. Using 24hrs of a couple CFLs isn't a big deal, but once you move passed just one or two seeds from cracking to harvest and start perpetual harvest you'll find a good box with a 400w system for veg/clone/seed to a 1000w system for flower you'll find the 24hr light cycle obsolete to use your larger HID for veg.

anywho, what was the question?

I guess to sum up the question it would be. Whats wrong with 24/0 pros and cons? So far we've established it runs up the electric bill if your using lights other then CFLs. Im happy with my CFLs btw! Lol

There aren't any cons to using 24/0 outside of electricity usage. But I'd factor the light and the a/c power usage for 24/0 since depending on your light it might significantly reduce how much your ac has to run.

I'd always consider 24/0 "better" for growth, but it's pretty negligible.

critical length

critical length

they'll flower at 14/10

9.40 min seems to be the trigger spot for flower
I've done both 24/0 18/6 while there is really no down fall to a 24/0 veg
It kinda seems natural being plants are a living thing that ya let them sleep. I roll with ,20/4 now

Sooooo I did this with similar thoughts for yeara.

I no longer do this because my shit likes to auto on 24 hours, turns out LOTS of cannabis vaireties do this...

I found the pro to 24 on was fast initial growth after a while though they dont like it and auto for me...
