What's with the feeble avatars?

I couldn't find any better place to inquire -- do we really have to choose from canned avatars?? I wanted to use a nice picture of one of my plants, or something. This seems pretty unimaginative for a site like this. I think if you allowed us to choose our own avatars, we might see some more entertaining incarnations around here.

Oh, me? I'm an old grower from Northern California, now retired and living the good life on a beach in the tropics.

When I had less than 50 posts I put my avatar picture in my sig line and had no picture in the avatar spot.

As soon as I got 50 posts, the switch was made.

lol, the 50 post count is the pinnacle of icmag. they truly make you earn it. if im not mistaken, took me forever to accumilate the necessary amount. but, once your surpass 50, its worth the trials and tribulation of being hazed ic style.

Not only can't you supply your own avatar until you have 50 posts, you can't add links to videos or chat either! I'm sure there are more restrictions, but those are the only ones I've encountered. Supposedly it's to protect us from "bots". OY!
