Whats up with the New LED Setups?

Am seeing expensive LED setups on eBay - claiming that a 300 watt led is = to 600 watt HPS and 1000 MH

anyone have ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with any of these setups?

LEDs are the future but the future ain't here yet. In terms of actual yield, a closer approximation would be 300 watts of LED=100 watts of HID.

Do an Advanced Search by Titles Only on LED and you'll find quite a few reports.

Right now they seem to be overselling the advantages of LED's. I think that the future might be there but for the price/value it just is not there yet.

There is no doubt LED's are the future we will all benefit when they get them dialed in. I agree they are currently can't compete with HID's CFL's and those manufactures are shooting themselves in the foot by making wild claims of 90w LED = 400 HID. They aren't even close and those claims are quickly losing public trust especially when consumers spend $400 hard earned money on a UFO type light that can't out perform a handful of screw in CFL's that costs 20 bucks.

I've not had good experiences with LEDs, and we tested several at the shop. If you must use them, do so in only in Veg. But HIDs and fluoros both offer better performance. :2cents:

Ya, I can't wait until a LED light hits the market that has an output wattage/Intensity that is actually realistic to what they claim it puts out.

Like mentioned above - I don't know why they lie about the output of these lights & tell people that a 90 watt LED light(up to 300+ watt LED lights)that will replace a 400 watt or even a 600 watt HID light - claiming that it'll provide the plants with basically the same light intensity & produce just as high of a yield as a 400wt. (or) 600wt. light will....

If they would be honest about the output & capability of the LED lights (Especially if (and eventually when) they are priced lower and more in line with their performance/harvest capability), I know a lot more people would use them.

I've had the chance to play around with some LED lights during a recent grow. They were used for about (the second) half of the Veg stage all the way thru to Harvest time.

I had like 600 watts of LED light and I'd say it was a much closer comparison to a similar wattage in Flourescent Lights.
Because there's not a chance that even 600 watts of LED light (from what most people consider to be the best LED light system on the market right now) was comparable to a 400 watt MH or HPS light.
I'd say that the 600 watts total of LED lighting I used, if compared against a HID light, were maybe equal to between about a 150wt to 250wt. HID light.

The lights are a definite step in the right direction and once companies start to improve the current LED light designs & start producing LED lights that actually do have comparable output to 400, 600 & 1000 watt HID lights (and are not priced so high), LED lighting will eventually become the preferred lighting systems.

But for now, from my own personal experience, the LED lighting systems on the market now have a good ways to go yet before they can do the job that a nice 400 watt MH or HPS does - and even longer before they even come close to producing the results a good 600 watter does....

Unless you find the LED lights for an amazing deal, your much better off spending your money on some good CFL's/high output flourescent lights And/Or a MH or HPS HID light.
