have to keep em clean.. have one for 6 years now just summer and works like champ... also make sure your fins on your coil arent bent in and jacked up.. probably not if you never took it out.. like for not cleaning it well you probably got your moneys worth.. if it needs recharging of freon it definitely means there is a leak and not worth salvaging/repairing unless you know an old retired a/c guy that likes to tinker for few bucks..
There is a good chance the refrigerant leaked out. No offense but frigidair is a cheaper brand. 5 years out of one of their window shakers sounds about right.
Make sure that both the evaporator & condenser fans are running. Blow out the coils w/ an air compressor & hand nozzle, keeping the airflow at 90 degrees so as not to bend the fins. Straighten any bent fins & look closely through the coils using a flashlight. Sometimes the coils need to be sprayed w/ a detergent solution, then blown out again. If it doesn't cool well after that, either the compressor is going soft or it's developed a tiny refrigerant leak because of vibration.
looks clean behind the filter, nothings bent.never moved it for five years.I think its just worn out.i got it too cool for a few hours, then my room turns into a sauna.ordering a new one.thanks for your help.

What about the condenser, the finned aluminum part on the outside?
If the evaporator is clogged, the inside heat exchanger, then heat can't get into the unit. If the condenser is clogged, that means heat can't get out...
5 years is a good run for a window banger running 24/7, so replacing it would probably be good preventive maintenance.
