What's the craziest/riskiest thing you've ever done with growing?

Every grower takes risks, but what's the riskiest thing you've ever done while growing?

For me, it was probably either leaving a rented house full of plants growing for 2 weeks while I went on holiday...

or maybe 2 weeks living with a girlfriend who knew nothing about a grow in the attic above where we were sleeping, along with wild birds flying around up there with exposed & unshielded HPS light, lol (did not know about the birds at the time, but really brought it home to me afterwards, especially with it being a wooden loft! ).

Ok, so please post up your stories, thanks :D

I left a light switch that controls the fan and vent in my grow tent, and the 400w cmh is on another outlet, if someone would have switched it off, all my plants would've been dead and possible everything would have melted inside my grow tent.

glad I put some tape on it to prevent anyone from switching it off.

I grew some plants in a closet in an apartment I rented from the Chief of Police. They were outdoor starts. He found them when he just came in and looked around when i was at work. I worked in a store owned by the mayor. LOL! It's true. 1970s. One day I was called in the office by my boss (the mayor). He told me he was best friends with the Chief of Police and 2 weeks ago he was in my apartment and found some plants in my closet. He thought they could be marijuanna but didn't think I would do that. I had a ponytail down to my waist. LOL! He said he told the chief they were probably tomato plants because I had a big garden the year before and they knew that. I said that they were tomato plants. They never mentioned it again. I did put out a big garden that year. I also put out 50 seedlings from that closet. I kept them there 6 weeks after the cop saw them.

This was back when you could smoke a joint in Pudgies and get away with it. 1975! That year was the last of the get away with murder dope smoking and growing years in the NE USA. After that you had to stay under the radar no matter how small.

I had a water leak in an upstairs grow one time while I was away for the weekend. The landlord entered my unit and tried to get into the bedroom but I put a lock on the door only 5 days earlier after not having one for a year. I eventually told him it was my aquarium.

Hid under my plants as LEO circled over top a couple hudred feet, looking for plants.. that was a chest thumper..... good thing I used to wear camo at the outdoor plots....

after the plane left and went over the horizon, all them plants went for a swim in a lake real near-by lake..

threw about 30+ plants in the pool that day... never had a visit.. guess I hid them, and myself, better than I thought.....

better to be safe than sorry..

hahaha , im not sure how mate , its just luck and nerve , and having a feel for a place aswell , perhaps a dash of insanity can help also ,, ... i chatted to an 85 yr old guy standing right next to a nice ducksfoot , he was from next door come over for a chat while i was working in the garden ,, he kept glancing at the plant , and i could see him wondering what it was , heheheh ...
i really wouldnt recommend doing big grows in towns , but , if u know whats going on around u pretty well , i think it s safe to dabble a little , hehehehehe..
anyhows to prove a point ,, this plant could be seen from the street , well i could see it anyhows , hhehehe ... and a few more from the same place .. shhhh dont tell anyone ... lol ..

hehe, Nice one Wally. I am doing the same sort of thing here, but nothing like 30 pounds, maybe three. Walled property. Neighbors walking by, but they all like me, which helps heaps.

I think you get a feel of where you can and where you can't do this stuff. I would never try this in Bangkok. Suicide. But a small village in the boonies. Good neighborly relations, easy going farmers who dabble in smoke themselves, etc.. You know..

Lets see....The Craziest.....
that would be in the late 70's. The Mrs. and I moved to Arkansas and I went to work for my brother-n-law who was a foreman for Brown & Root. He had a friend who went by the handle of "Tex" who was a grower and ole Tex took me under his wing. I had 2 growing seasons with ole Tex and I guess the craziest thing I ever did was guard 4 acres of Arkansas Sensimellia during harvest time. My kahoonies were bigger than my brains in those days and I spent a few weekends in those beautiful Arkansas foothills.....oh the smell................................................................................................
...................... ...did I just flashback to the 70s!!!I sure would give anything to have that rich Arkansas Mountain soil between my toes just one more time.

The scariest/riskiest thing I ever did was guard that same 4 acres which was now harvested & dried, cleaned and placed into garbage bags and stored in a room. It was the last weekend before pickup was due and ole Tex ask me to watch the house while he went out to the bar. Before he left he took me to the back room and showed me a couple of the trash bags that he had sat off to the side. Underneath the smoke were a couple of baggies with wash-towels inside the baggies. He pulled them out and unwrapped the wash-towels and they were diamonds. I did not ask him how much or how many or where they were going and it was not my business. It was my business to guard the house and that is what I did..... and without incident.
Two days later Tex did not show up for work and word quickly got back to us that he had been arrested. To make a long story short the person buying the diamonds from him was an undercover agent. I don't know where he got them from and I didn't even know he was involved with diamonds until that last night...hell I didn't even know what a diamond was....remember...kahoones Vs brains, kahoonies win!!!. I don't know if Tex got hit with the smoke & the diamonds or just the diamonds, we left, pulled up roots and got the hell out of Dodge in a 68 VW Beetle at that. I never heard from him again.
Thats about the time I thought it was a good idea to start growing indoors. High Tmes had a couple of ads in the back for hydro kits....anyone remember those bad boys...they looked like a kitty litter box with Lava Rocks for a medium and the food for the plants was a basic 12-12-12 blue miracle grow like substance that they liked to call nutrients. We didn't have 1000Watt digitals in those days...we had to walk up hill.... both ways......to the grow room...barefooted...in...the...snow... and we had to use our high powered poaching Quartz lens and shine them on a cookie dough sheet for the reflectors...just to get our seeds to germ.....Oh those were the good ole days.
Happy 420 Everyone.
Love to all.
