whats the coverage on a 1000 watt and a light mover?

how many flowering plants could you put under a 1000watt hps if you had it on a light mover? what about without a light mover? not a rotating mover but one that just goes back and forth. shape of the area is not a problem...it can either be a large square area or a rectangular for a light mover to go back and forth. Just looking for the highest amount of plants in either of these areas while using only 1 1000watt bulb and reflector...thanks

i cover roughly 4ft x 8ft with a 1k on a mover. depends on pot size and system you are using but i can pack in 21 to 24 3 gal grow bags with saucers in that footprint.

so it would be best to go with the mover i see...what shape is your reflector in? the standard upside down "U" shape?

i find it easier to work with and it is less distracting when i am in my room. no other reason. both work well.

that setup looks pretty sweet. i have a 5x9 area that has two 1000w's hanging for coverage but lately i've only been able to run one due to temp problems. i've been considering a light mover since it seems like the perfect size room to benefit from one. what do you think?

Just remember, a light mover is not a replacement for a second light. it lets you run the bulb closer to the canopy, but also:

1) Complicates air-cooling hood ducting
2) Reduces your watts per square foot (sometimes by half)
3) Can break/snag on a wire and cause a fire (buddy almost lost his grow)
4) Is one more piece of equipment to buy, maintain and install

I know they have some advantages, but most guys that buy movers are getting them to compensate for an inherent weakness in their garden. If you have a heat problem or can't afford another light then a mover won't do much for you, just makes your grow a little more complicated than it was before. Just my $.02, there are plenty who will disagree

well the situation i have is that only one light can be used and im trying to get the most out of that light. That is why i wanted the light mover. I can go rectangular shaped and move the light back and forth in order to squeeze more out of the light right??(more being additional flowering plants)

Yes, you could definitely fit more plants in there, but every additional plant is decreasing the yield of all the others past a certain point. The original set is no longer getting 50wpsf or whatever, but as little as half that. All of your bud will be fluffier and less crystalled than they were before, and will probably suffer in overall yield.

Put another way, yeah you could light a small warehouse full of plants with a single 1000W on a mover, but would any of those plants be any good? Or would they just be surviving? If you want to try it you're of course free to do so, (hell prove me wrong) but I don't think your overall yields will increase by much, if any, and your quality will probably suffer.

I've used movers in the past and the only thing they really accomplished is reduced the amount of plant rotating I had to do by hand. Yield was not improved, but I made sure I had at least 50Wpsf WITH the mover too.
