What's smoking in Vancouver?

First stop was the BC Compassion Club. A well organized medical cannabis facility in Vancouver.

Very nice Joe. So I've been wondering...

just how does that work. I've been to the Dam and of course you may purchase regardless of necessity. In BC, does one need to be a card carrying medical user? Or perhaps it is a formality that can be dealt with once one arrives at one of these wonderful facilities? Is a trip to Vancouver worth my time? Looks like it so far.

Great times and good environment

Great times and good environment

Vancouver is a nice metropolitan city. You can shop for fur coats and designer hand bags or another neighborhood has glass bongs and seeds.

Hang out at a smoke friendly cafe (bring your own) and meet new people and share cool stories! You just might find herb to smoke :D

BC Compassion Club and other facilities are strictly open for patients with true medical need as designated by their doctor.

Here is some more bud from the trip.

Hmmmm....

Hmmmm....

For those of you who are under the false illusion that pot is sold on every street corner up here in BC, here's a reality check.
Although the penalties are less here in Canada and especially BC, cannabis is still ILLEGAL here!
Unless you have a MEDICAL CANNABIS EXEMPTION from the Federal Gov't, you are subject to much the same harrassment you are from your own overzealous American counterparts (cops)!
Possible exceptions to this rule are folks like myself, who are members of one or more of the few Compassion clubs that are left after a recent wave of BUSTS (yes that's right BUSTS) of places that thought they could "flout the law" in the Vancouver area, by using the "pretense" they were selling to "medical users!"
Rest assured, that membership did NOT come to me easily!
I had to have my DOCTOR sign a letter allowing me access to the meds at the BC Compassion Club, as do ALL their patient clientele! No walking in off the street. Period.
Frankly those of us who ARE legitimate medical users, are pretty tired of money hungry entrepreneurs trying to make a living using us as an excuse to sell cannabis. This only makes the environment tougher for those of us who really need cannabis for treatment.
Anyway, if you aren't a medical user, and you don't know anyone here, expect to be stuck buying your buds off the street and paying high prices for dubious products.
There are a VERY few exceptions to that situation, but finding a reputable dealer at that level can be daunting to say the least!
Bottom line....if you want to be sure you have something to smoke on your trip to BC, send some ahead in the mail, or make darn sure you KNOW someone here, or if you are a medical user, that you have checked ahead with the Compassion Club regarding availability and criteria.
I hope this straightens things out a bit for some of you, and I am sorry to pop any false illusions about Vansterdam!
It's a great place, filled with great folks and great buds, but they sure as hec aren't hanging around in the street waiting for tourists!

Yes. Lots of what you say are true meduser.

As a medical user, I sent my paperwork in advance to be verified for admission to the club. I certainly did not "roll in" off the street. Plus I have friends here.

You do not walk down Robson street smoking a joint, but you can certainly go to a smoke friendly establishment without worry. Or walk off the trail and smoke one by the river out of sight out of mind.

If you get in a drunken rage and trash the place you are staying, when the police come and find you have cannabis you will certainly be charged for it... but if you are in the privacy of your own home, or in a smoke friendly establishment, and do not attract the police by acting stupid or breaking other laws, cannabis can be enjoyed in Vancouver LOL!

The folks who sat near me in the cafe were full of information and fun to chat with in this open environment. "Bring your own" means bring your own, but cannabis in a social situation often leads to passing the joint.

As smoking cannabis becomes more NORMLized, laws will change to fit the need.

joe and meds:

Thanks for your input. Much obliged. Tis a shame otherwise law abiding citizens may not enjoy a simple herb placed on this earth by our creator.

Maybe someday. Perhaps I will bring some by. To share. Is the general public allowed inside of these establishments to "bring their own"?

Great pics joe.
