Coyote creek flows through a mountain. You can swim through and its dark in there. I've taken dates there, and swam in, setting small candles on the stalagmites so we could swim through together and check out all the formations. You can climb way up inside the hill too. It's called crrstal caves, and natural bridges

wow! that looks much chunkier than the color I've been pulling outta the desert(drywasher) although there are times when .2-.5g chunks will show up(rare as hell)

and the creeks down in so-cal...fogettaboutit...spend all day sluicin for like 12 specks

we oughta have a chronic & color @ the creek fest! I'll bring the cookies, my shovel and sluice!

Dr P - Great find. I just killed a nice 4x4 buck at Melones on Tues.!!! If I knew there was gold in Coyote creek like that I woulda went hunting for a different trophy!

Are You going to make some Deer Jerky? I recently bought a TSM all stainless steel including the racks dehydrater. Ive made some awesome jerky from angus london broil. I bet Deer jerky would be dynamite. It also slow dries fresh bud real good in 24 hours at low temp.

For the nuggets in volcano, I use real long (30 inches) home made crevace picks. If you can get deep into the crevaces, you can pick out some nuggets the 49ers missed completely.

At coyote creek, you want to wench out a boulder, and get at the "Ancient Gray" clay underneath it. It needs to be disolved and run through a slouce box. There are tiny rubies in the clay as well and other semi precious stones. Garnets as well

That sounds kinda back-breaking, but I'm still curious. Sutter Creek, the creek itself, is pretty much walking distance from me. I see folks at the Moke river sluicing all the time, but I've never seen anyone down in Sutter. Wait, I did see one guy, he rolled his car over the edge and down he went!

We should go over to the Moke or Cosumnes and give it a shot some day. I built a sluice box one time for a school project.

I have my favorite spot at the Moke, but SC is a *lot* closer and those little gold nuggets looked nuggy.

My friend found a spot on the Consumnes river, east of Latrobe road. When the water level was super low, you dig down in the center of the river behind a large boulder, into clay, about about 2 feet deep. My buddy found whole bunch of big, thick nuggets, he made into jewelry for his wife. They had matching nugget wedding bands. Nuggets went all the way around.
Its a no parking zone there for a half mile or more on either side of the river. We took bikes in the back of a van, parked far outside the no parking zone. rode to the river, and waded up stream, only to be asked to leave by a home owner on the northside. There is a judge that lives along there so they are weird about that area. I got back to the van, and they ticketed me even though I was legal. I fought and won, but have never returned to the spot on the river. I have the original hand drawn treasure map my buddy drew for me, before he went back to Texas. The boulder is on the map, and we found it, just as the home owner walked up. We were legal in the river, but like he said "how did you get there?" You had to climb down the bank on private property."

So anyway, big nuggets in there, probably pounds of gold

Dr - Jerky is def on the menu along with my venison chili. I am in that area you are referring to all the time and see people panning but never gave anythought to stopping. Anytime im around water my visions are of 10lbs steelies and 5lb rainbows!! I cant help it, Im addicted to flyfishing along with deer/pig hunting! Glad to see someone pulling gold outa the water.

:biggrin:I remember looking at old photo albums from my parents before they shat me out. In knee high creeks in northern Ca. with overalls and straw hats. Using some sort of compressor or pump to air hose loose rock. My uncle was even in some pics he couldn't have been even 20 yet. Old man has a vial of gold like DR's. Ironic the biggest nugget was one my mom found in a washing maching at a laundry mat.

Well, considering how low all the rivers are right now, many with dry areas that haven't been seen for a few years at least, maybe any of these rivers that are part of this watershed are good candidates. I know what section of the Cosumnes you're talking about, too. There's an old stone chimney remaining, just to the east of the Latrobe Rd bridge. I use it to gauge the height of the river. Two winters ago the water was up to the chimney, easy. This year it is high and dry.

Is the Cosumnes controlled for hydro-electric generation the way the Mokelumne is...? I'm a member of Save the Moke, but haven't ever seen anything regarding Cosumnes.

I keep a spare 28 gallons in the garage on hand at all times. I treat it, and rotate it out every 6 months. This price spike is temporary. Ill be using my spare gas until it comes down
