Whats life in California like?

Thank you, D.D. Starting a business..? I think it depends on the business model and where you might plan to open it. For example, auto mechanics, good ones where we are are few and far between, so they're treated like gold and paid well. We have no more dealerships, which makes it worse for consumers, great for a good mechanic.

Gowing up in the 80s and 90's all you used to hear about on the news was the violence and the gangs in California. How are things now, especially in Southern California? I read a lot about the, well your safe as long as you dont go into x,y,z neighborhood and aren't wearing blue or red. To me this seems rediculous like fuck how are these guys not done killing themselves? So inform me of how it is vs. yahoo and citydata forums.

I have a brother-in-law, LA county firefighter, who works in those areas. It's just as bad as it ever was. And Stockton? God, the news out of there pretty much every day is of someone or some people getting shot and killed. Stay outta Stockton!

Yup stockton no good, since going bankrupt a lot less cops, criminals know this. Whole lot easier to get away with stuff when the city doesnt have the resourses.

you'd have no problem making it on 35k in the right small/medium city. definitely not in or around any major city's. The farther you are away from lets say San Francisco the cheaper things gets, thats half the reason for so many damn commuters. I think the problem at hand would be to find the job that pays you 35k a year unless you got some skills of some sort or in the computer tech buss. not to hard to find but ive just noticed a big price drop in wages, theres now 200 ppl going for 3 postions, you will always find someone willing to do it for less. so the job used to start at 12.50 now it starts at 9.75 because they can. stupid..

Gas for the most part is always 10 to 30 cents higher then anywhere else but latley its been fairly cheap, think i paid 3.19 not sure what it is else where, but not more then a month ago it was 4.75$

you dont really have people just standing around trying to sell you shit and talk to you.unless your in a part of town you shouldnt be in. but most people are cool, usually situation dependent, if your out walking your dog in the morning, seems everyone out wants to talk, good mornings here and there. sit down at a bar next to someone you wont have any problem striking up convo. if your out going you will be fine.

Well I can count in my little circle of friends about 25-40 people (out of work atm) looking for that "magical" $35K- 45K job....please share with us where their at?

I for one have been looking for over 3 years with (2) degree's; Architectural Drafting/Cad-Cam Design and a BA in Economics and cannot find one.

Life in California is great as long as you have or can make money. Marijuana stores, amazing weather, surf and snow, Hollywood, actors, models, pornstars, casinos, liquor stores open all night, direct democracy propositions, affordable cleaning helpers, the hydro Silicon Valley( so many hydro companies), etc., did I mention fox farm ocean forest is easily found for 12 buck a bag or less

In the Loin, you have to step over the shit piles and fight though the dope heads, and then you get to deal with real Californians. They are back stabbin, lying, underhanded lot, who will smile in your face but will sale out to whoever pays 1 cent more. After alll of that, the few people that remain are decent and kind hearted, these people are what really make California great.

Spending any time in da Tenderloin will give anyone a bad outlook. IMHO worst part of a Great City.

Have a place to stay before you get there, and bring your wallet.

California is a wonderland, but it all comes at a price...be it money, commute or price of housing. One way or another your going to pay for
all that beautiful sunshine.

There is no way to typify California, it is far too big and diverse. You can find virtually every climate, population base, or topography that you want.

cali has anything that floats your boat. from surfing to skiing. to fine dining to mountain hut grub. city, Forrest, mountains, desert, farms, vineyards lake lands. cali has it all.

Never said I knew where they are I just stated you could get by with 35 to 45. I did say it would be difficult to find one unless your a computer tech or some kinda technical job. The problem witb your degree is no one is building yet, when the building start goinv up, you shouldnt have a problem just who knows when that may be
