What’s in a name? It depends

Interesting read about genetic variation in strains. To get the talking points, skip down to Discussion & Conclusion. Something think about when buying from a dispensary. I wonder what the genetic variation is from seed banks?

Most seed banks sell polyhybrids,a good % of all mainstream comes from sk#1. it's pretty rare when one releases an IBL,I think paradise has but only in fem, that's up to us to stabilize.

Seems like for one own breeding program, it would be good to start with the known genetics of Skunk #1 and/or the parents. But after decades of breeding there is bound to be some genetic drift.

When Nirvana Ice came out it was wicked too and dirt cheap. I haven't tried it since. I hope it still is.

If the name is important to you, it's important to have GOOD LABELS.

Last year my labels faded and now I have names like "Yellow Bucket".

I also have some "Apricot Kush". Not because it had a Kush parent, because it grew near some Apricot trees and I felt like calling it Apricot Kush. Also that plant was Resiny and Skunky, good smoke.

But maybe the main thing is to keep every seed batch separate.

If you know what the seed is a cross of, does it matter what the name is ?

There's a tendency to try to reflect parentage in the Seed name.

But that often ends up looking like a major mathematical derivation.

I think it's OK to have a name-of-convenience,
as long as you're also honest about seed parentage.

One of my favorites is "Can't Remember #1".

I just managed to clone a plant named "Cheese or Mold".

It had 2 faded labels. One described the Cheese x Apollo 11 heritage, the other said "MOLD."

It's like "Revenge of the Faded Plant Labels" or something.
