On a mover my 1k is about 2 feet from the plant tops... I try to adjust my height according to the desired footprint... high enough to light the plants 3 feet either side of centerline...

Hey, thanks too! Just downloaded the chart for my reference folder.

sorry for brining back such an old thread, but, i was under the impression that 2-3 ft was a good distance from the tops for a 600 watt hps?
now suppose its 12-18 inches from tops, how is one to keep the temps in a safe range (not over 90), without ac fittings, or glass?
Can one put glass on a reflector w/o a/c fittings, but with exhaust vents on either side?

i don't know if it's the right thing to do but i just hung a piece of window glass under my batwing reflector. i use a 50 cfm computer fan to blow on the bulb. temps are fine now.
i hope the glass doesn't cut down on the lumens too much, i think i read it blocks 5-10% or something like that.
