Whatever happened to Acapulco Gold?

I grew up in the 1970's early eighties and my friend's brother grew Acapulco Gold in his closet. I remember you could feel the heat coming out of his room when walking by his closed door. I also remember this strain was talked about alot in school and that was a LOOOOONG time before I knew anything about the world of pot and its strains.

I have never come across this strain on IC or in any seedbank listings. Is Acapulco Gold gone or has it been renamed?

Thanx for any info in advance!

Smoked some a few years ago, an older guy that had kept alot of strains from his youth going since he had been growing for 30+ years. Was wonderful stuff, the only time I've ever hallucinated off of herb was after a few 4 footer snaps of that shit.

All those strains have been cross-bread into most of the modern ones that we can purchase today.

ive heard some negative things about greenthumb's acapulco gold stock. its best to research each breeder's acapulco gold line to find out when and where the beans are sourced from. recent collections even in acapulco are most likely not pure seeing as how indica genetics were introduced in mexico in the late 70's- 80's (depending on where in mexico). if you are looking for a pure acapulco gold, you are going to want to find an old line for sure.

Well as it turns out, Dr. Greenthumb does not carry a pure AG strain but a couple of strains that have AG heritage, those being: JJ"S Gold and Golden Haze.

I just Googled Acapulco Gold and found absolutely no listings for seedbanks carrying this strain. But I did find Wikipedia has an interesting entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acapulco_gold

It pretty well explains why I have not found it(or Panama Red-which I was also curious about)

The search continues...
