what would have you done different setting up your room ?

im going to be starting construction of the room thats going to hold my grow room .. im probably going to be putting up a 8x8 room for my grow box in the bassement .. so all of this is going into construction in the comming months .. im just wondering .. what would you have done different if you could do it all over again ?

let me be more clarify the room is 8x8x7'6" the box im going to build will be 2'6" x 3' 6" 600 hps ,mother and clone rooms to be decided l8r

I would have started bigger...and not worry so much about cost and trying to skimp corners (you should be able to more then make your money back+ withen the first 3-4 months...I would have also went ahead and put more on my credit cards, so I could have started up with a bigger and better system...without worrying so much about it)

I would have also started off with better genes/strains then I did

Plan for expansion and overcrowding, make it bigger now!!! Same with mom and veg rooms.

……………well it seems to me that the most common mistakes among indoor gardeners is: that there is a failure to take the time out to properly calculate for good ventilation and odor control, those are the only two that I can think about ~ plants need to breath and it is a most that the odor is under control.

Leave room for easy expansion.

Leave adequate room for yourself to move around (so you can easily care for the plants without risking breaking or damaging them).

As you are designing the room, think about how you are going to be using it and waht you need to be able to access easily. For example, if you are growing hydro, plan where you are going to put the reservoir - many people bury it under plants or in an inaccessible corner, but what if you need to replace an airstone or pump? Or a connection comes loose and needs to be tightened? It's also easier to check water level, pH and TDS levels in the reservoir than anywhere else.

Make light height adjustable.

If possible, leave room around the entire perimeter of the grow area so you can access all the plants without having to lean over or reach under another plant to access one that's in back. My arrangement makes this impossible and I'm forever trying to reach the back plants around/over/under the front plants.

Have a source of water and a drain nearby so you don't have to haul water around. If you do have to haul water, a cooler held on a luggage cart with bungie cords is a lot easier than hand-carrying containers. Most cooler lids are tight enough to keep splashing water from hitting the floor, too.

Plan where you are going to have your electrical connections. Mount power strips on a board or something to get them off of the floor and out of danger of water. Have GFCI protection on all your circuits. If you have an electrician come in to wire the room, have an extra 20 amp circuit put in "just in case." That way, you'll be able to easily upgrade lighting or add extra lighting if needed.

Think everything through as much as you can while planning the layout. Try not to have anything you'll need to access regularly blocked.

Keep a fire extinguisher in the grow room. A fire/smoke alarm in the room is also a good idea.

madd dog & smokey : well im pushing the size of it now . i was supposed to just go a little bigger than 2x2 with a 400 so im maxed out in size . as far as seeds go ,, well i have good genetics { thanks gypsy ! } always could use more , but we all say that .

bigtoke : very good advise . ventalation shouldnt be a problam , same with temp . (got to love sub. bassments with aircooled hoods) now odor on the other hand is always a problam .. what i planed on doing is building the diy carbon scrubber off of o.g. , keep that in the cab and pull air through it . also using a vapor tech in the bassment .

ambre : spot on as always . all sound advise . i plan on keeping smoke detectors in the room also a fire extinguisher .. lots of people over look that .

so anyone have a storey of their big screw up in the construction of their room / box ? POST THEM HERE ! i want to learn from your mistakes also , any carpenters out there ? i could always use advise on building this room . thanks all.

Howdy angel, how are ya? im not quite understaning what you plan to biuld, i am a carpenter of 20 years and done understand why in an 8x8 space yo want to biuld such a small cab. Is 8x8 the maximum space allowed? in other words is that the size of the basement? Have a look at some of ny threads and see if you aprove ov my biulding skills and the lets get a few things sirait. I have so much fun biulding rooms.

cool bonzo !! i need your help . ok here we go . the bassment is a full sized sub basment , rather large infact . now i want an 8x8 room for MY room . i want to put a bench in there with a hood for ventilation so i can store / clean my guns . i want to be able to keep them locked up and out of site ... now i want to also build a 3'6" x2'6" flowering room and a properly sized mother /veg /clone room INSIDE the 8x8 room . some would say this is small , but it will feed my and my freinds med needs . i want the grow spaces to look like closets in the room . somewhat stealth . what im seeing is a space very similer to a c13 ... ask more questions or post your stories

hehe Verite!!

i would have had more GFCI outlets put in by the electrician at about shoulder height...i had him run a 4-outlet box (all GFCI) on their own circuit, now i'm wishing i would have had him run 2 or 3 more 4-outlet boxes spaced evenly down the length of the wall...and whatever matching upgrade to the breaker box, too...oh well.

a height adjustable bench would have been nice, too.

Also, when you think you've got it all figured out, remember one thing - You don't

Go back and recheck everything. Twice. I can think of numerous occasions that would have helped me in my projects.

And remember, if you're doing Hydro - You will get wet. Period. It gonna happen, accept the fact now If there's anything in there you don't want to get wet (ie carpet), cover it or remove it.

If you're doing soil - you will get dirty, period If there's anything in there you don't want dirty (ie carpets ) cover thme or pull them.

Hello angel im sorry for taking so long to respond, i have thrown my lower back out and have not bean able to do much at at all. If your basement is larger than 8 x 8 , why do you want to biuld an 8 x 8 room? Also its not a good idea to keep your guns in the same room as your grow, of course that depends on what kind of guns they are? Also if you have enough room to biuld an 8 x 8 room with plenty of room left over, maybe something like going ahead with the 8 x 8 and putting you cabs out side the 8 x 8 space with a door or stealth door leading to your cabs. I have more stealth ideas for this project but i just cant type it all out right now. How big is your base ment anyway?

Firts thing i would do is not have guns around my place while growing...chances are your not going to get caught but if you do, growing(felony) + guns= MANY EXTRA YEARS..
Also i would definetly pay for the growroom by using a grow tent like a HomeBox because its perfect for a 600..easily collapsible, no holes in walls and if you ever wanted to add more space, just buy another one..One of the flower rooms could be used for taller starins like sativas and the other for indica strains..And if somebody ever finally makes a flip flip relay for one ballast for $50-100, then you could save on a ballast and run the two areas with the same ballast..1200 of the most superior watts can easitly get a good grower 2 pounds..
And another thing is buy the best inline fan you can buy...and not a squirrel cage fan..i kick my self everytime i see that fan trying to save a few extra dollars...

So my plan would 3 homeboxes(1 veg and 2 flower), best fan, flip flop relay and NO GUNS...
