What would be better for my hydrohut 600 or 1000?

Hello all:wave:

Im NK for all who dont know me. I have been growing in my closet(s) for the past year now. I have used as much as 800 watts (non-aircooled) in my small 5x3 closet without too many problems.. temps were around 82 but that didnt bother the plants that bad... I am moving on up the ladder though and I want to invest in a new flower chamber for my next grow Let me show you what I was thinking. ..

I want to use a 4x4x7 hydro hut for my flower chamber.. which will include..
1-600 watt HPS with Silver Star reflector....
or
1-1000 watt HPS with Silver Star reflector...
1- can 66 carbon filter....
and I already own 1 6" 449 cfm vortex fan....

I would really prefer to go with the 1000watt HPS but the more I read people seem to say that they have a really hard time keeping the temps down with the 1000 watter..

600 watt would be O.K. but im not sure that it would produce the large size buds that I am really looking for... But then again if I cant cool the 1000 properly it wont give me large buds either:chin:

But I still have a lot of time to figure out all the details. I would love to hear anyones stories or experiences using 600's vs. 1000's inside 4x4 hydrohuts.

Thanks so much for all of your time and help + rep for all who join in the conversation!!!!

800 watts in a 3'11"X3'11" secret jardin darkroom works great... temps hover 74-78...

I love non poisonous tents! :) much success to you..

Hey there HenDokuYaku:wave:

Thanks for the input buddy. Yea I could just run the 2 400 watters that I have right now, but that wont give me big enough buds. Im basically running that setup that your talking about in my closet right now, just trying to upgrade my lighting a bit. Thanks for the input though.

Hey NK..

I run a 1000w light in my 4x4 Jardin tent, with a can 33 filter, so similar to what you have in mind, and I had a poisonous Hydrohut prior to that, so I've run the same setup in one of those too.

Temps are 73-78 degrees F at canopy level, and I keep the light about 2 feet above the plants.

You'll definitely need to add another 6'' vortex to run a 1000w light, as I run 2 of those myself; 1 to the reflector at full speed and one to the filter at 75% power. I also use a 6'' inline fan for intake when I run it zipped up.

I love this setup :0]

I would avoid the Hydrohuts and Habitat tents.. I hear the Homebox tents are straight if you have your heart set on that style. Having used both, I recommend the Jardin tent for sure, though I don't care for the ducting socks and use the Hydrohut duct things.

And I feel like throwing out a pic of my Hashberry babies hehe

Good luck man whatever you decide!

Thanks for the welcome, homie!

That's awesome you're running 2 400s now. This is my first run with them. I'm wondering, do you think you'll get better results using 1 600 than 2 400s? I don't have much experience to compare.

I'll be following your project for sure. I'll also go back and reread some of your grow threads.

Much success!

Mr. BongJangles, That is a really tidy set up and healthy babies you have going. Sanitary in all respects.

Apple- Yea but just dont have any more $$$ to drop on a new vortex at the moment.. its in my future though.. probably the 8" version.. Thanks for the idea.

Mr.Bongjangles- Wow dude, that setup is CLLLLLEEEEAAANNNNN damn that looks exactly like how I want mine to look :headbange I am currently using a can33 filter in my closet and its only like 200cfm or right around there.

So is it possible that I could just use a modded stanley blower instead of buying another new vortex?? I know that the vortex is what I should/will eventually get, but I already have a stanley blower all modded and ready to go.

This would actually be great because I dont want to have to spend $200 on a can66 filter when I could spend less and get a can33, plus I was thinking that the 66 might be too heavy for the supports of this tent..

Whats the rule of thumb on how much weight one of these tents can support?

I thank you for steering me in the direction of these Jardin Dark Room Grow tents, dont really like the whole sock idea for ducting, but everything else especially the reflective inner material and the more sturdy cross beam make me feel like this is the tent to go with. I just dont want to fuck around with a HH and find out that I miss a few harvests because I have a posinous tent:badday:

Did you cut your own holes in your tent so you could use the hydrohut flanges?

Is it totally necessary to get an intake fan with this setup or could i just put 6" duct in the 2 lower holes and just use them as passive intakes?

Your babies look killer! Thanks for all of the help!!!

HenDoKu- Yea 2 400's can definitly do the trick, but I think that the 600 watt would produce far superior buds compared to the 400's. I would really like to use a 1000 watter though.. Then I can really get the thick, fatty, headbonking colas Ive been waiting for this whole time. Yea ill send you a link to my old thread.. lots of good info in there, that could save you a ton of headaches.. check it out..

TY-
Yea dude isnt that room fly... I cant wait till I can post up my clone of it.... hehehe

Still gonna keep doing research, so I would still like all of your opinions. Currently 1000 watt is in the lead, using a jardin tent and 2 exhaust fans... but what else can/should I do to make this better?

you could rig a light weight light mover on the two 400's and I think you would do awesome...you can even a t attached to ducting that's tied to the ballast cord to suck away heat and odor from one fan. 2 400's is better than a 1000 in my book...Also spend the extra cash on good bulbs...Lumens mean nothing when compared to the spectrum of the lumens.....full spectrum lighting, good nutes, good environment, equals Good, and big buds

Yeah I think you could use the blower for the filter - I should have just said "more ventilation" hehe

I don't know how much they can support exactly, but, there is a tiny bit of flex at the corners with my can33 on there, prolly because it is positioned as close to the back as possible. Nothing I'm worried about, but, were I to put any more weight on that bar I would likely have to move it a few inches or more toward the center. The official amount is 65lbs though. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I cut the holes myself.. I just wrote a bunch of stuff about that in another thread, so I'm gonna quote it here:

Yes, I cut the walls with a sharp kitchen knife to make holes for the Hydrohut flanges. The material cuts very nicely so long as you keep some tension on it. My advice - mark the circle, then cut a + in the middle, so it is like a pizza with 4 slices. Then you can keep tension on each "slice" as you cut them out.

The screws that come with the flange kits don't have a pointy end, so I recommend you carefully poke holes with the knife. Just a tiny slice the size of the screw. Don't roughen up the hole or anything - it is best the screw fits in tightly so you can get the other side of the flange on without them falling out.

As for the intake fan.. I haven't tried running the tent for an extended period of time without it, but, I suspect it makes at least a few degrees of difference to the canopy temperature. I'd test for you were things different, but after what I've been through with the bad hydrohut and its bad replacement, I can't risk the slightest delay or hardship to my current crop in there. That said, it sucks a good amount of air through the fan even when its off; just a lot more when it is on.

And no worries about the help/info.. I've been at this a few years, but not enough to jump in confidently when people need help with plants and stuff, and I've learned a lot here so I feel almost obligated to help as much as I can when I see something I'm qualified to speak on. It is my pleasure, in fact.

Thanks again for the kind words about my little setup.. Definitely made my day!

sup NK? i use the HH original (4x4x7) with a 600w digi HPS in a sunleaves aircooled hood with a 6" canfan and canfan carbon filter too. would definitely recommend it, but if you want the yields, get the 1K.
