Never keep the fastest ones to show sex, vigor does not equal potency.
Try to keep the one that has the best tricome production or has the smell you want or the look you want. It is up to you which trait you are looking for.
Check in the breeder's section, they can help you out.
If you can find a male that gets frosty and has the size you prefer, it should be a good male. I always choose one that has a fat stalk with the above qualities.
it depends on what traits you want to pass along to the children. I myself would look for speed of growth, how much it stretches in flower. males tend to stretch more than females from my exp. and trichome production.
a good male to me would be a short ,fast flowering, heavy trich production plant. then i would cross it to a female that had similar qualities, and hope for short fast flowering children with heavy trichome production.
i would look for a medium height, stinky with triches. i have to say popping to early is not something u want it to do. it might cause autoflower in the long run. the stinkier the better!
that's just for begining* in the long run u would want to take him outdoors to see what he is resistant to. take years and a real big room if u can't do it outdoors. it's all in the numbers... always mark away and keep paper and pen at hand.
for F1 beans I try to find a male that looks like the female, then if I have several males to chose from ,I look at them with a magnifier to see what the trichs are like. You can clone all the good lookig males and let them flower out, tell they die, sometimes this will show which male produces the most trichs.
